sapper756 Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 As some fanciers are beginning to wean their youngsters, it would be interesting to hear the views of those who use the Darkness system, informing the members, when they actually begin the Darkening process. Do they darken immediately, or is there a date that they stick to each year? Some fanciers wait until the Equinox in Marchhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0138-thinking.gif What do you do? Thank youhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/animatedpigeons.gif
victorious Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 have never darkened them dont really see the point darkening distance bred birds but to be competive and have a bit of fun in young bird races you really have to ,i would like to hear other peoples opinion on darkening distance young birds,is it worth the bother.
kirky Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 as soon as thay are weaned, darkeness will make no differance for distance in later years thay are only on it as ybs.

victorious Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 WHAT I MEAN IS WHY DARKEN DISTANCE BRED YOUNG BIRDS WHEN THE LONGEST YOUNG BIRD RACE IS 250 MILE THEIR HARDLY GOIN TO BEAT SPRINT BRED BIRDS SURELY WHICH SHOULD BE DARKENED ANYWAY,STRANGE THESE MEN WHICH DARKEN THEIR BIRDS ALWAYS SEEM TO HAVE A NATURAL BATCH AS WELL DO THEY NO SOMETHING WE DONT.
andy Burgess Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 will wait till end of March (although will only be weaning some about then) we are about 3 weeks behind schedule this year .normally have them over for a few weeks before starting .i think the darkness is a pain in the bum , but to compete today ,i feel you have to do it .
The engineer Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 I am going to try the darkness this year for the first time so i am keen on any info. I didn't do it last year as it was my first year. I was really pleased with my YB's until i saw a team of darkness YB's the difference was amazing. I wish to be more competitive this year so feel it is a must.
sapper756 Posted February 19, 2012 Author Report Posted February 19, 2012 we put them on as soon as weaned when is that?

Wiley Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 As soon as you get equal daylight hours but it's weather dependent like today London had 11 hours light so in the beginning of march I will darken

dal2 Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 Am givin the darkness a skip this year for the first time in a few years!!! Just canny be arsed and the results werny great for the moult in winter!
adam owen Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 why not darken distance birds at end of day darkness dnt make you win races it puts them in top body condition to be capable of winning races.surley birds in full feather weather it be sprint middle or long is better in the air than rag dolls.how do you exspect a yb which is still growing to moult and give 110% in any weather on a race day if they like rags,my opinion you cant hence why so many losses, give your ybs the best chance you can
