Rechargeable bats have a 'memory' Constant full charge then short use narrows your charge band. There are dischargers on the market for the prob.

acer aspire 5551 laptop only about 6 months old :emoticon-0138-thinking:

The laptop will still be under warranty, take the lot back to where you bought it and explain the problem. My eldest Grandson had the same with a Toshiba from either Comet or Curry's.

Ye it will be ok but the proper way is to charge the battery from flat to completely full and then use it unplugged from mains until the laptop warns you of near loss of power, reconnect and charge to full and repeat process.

This stops the bat from forming a lower and upper charge limit memory.

1. plug your charger into laptop remove battery

2. power down laptop then restart with battery still not connected

3. power down but before you restart your laptop put the battery back in then power back up again

if this doesn't repair it then get a new battery

I wrote this article a while ago for a web site on how best to look after your laptop battery

http://www.comspeccomputers.co.uk/index.php/getting-the-most-from-your-laptop-battery.html

If you have your battery inserted and are constantly plugged into the mains, you will definitely diminish it's capability for holding a charge.

Really the best way to deal with your battery is to use your laptop on the battery until it almost runs out, then plug in the charger, or remove the battery completely if you intend to use the charger all the time.
