If i could pick one fancier in Scotland to talk National pigeons with it would be a man i shook hands with today at the Fauldhouse Show, John McNeill of Broxburn.

To talk Club and Fed pigeons it would be George Macaloney of Coatbridge, Lanarkshire,,,,,,,,,,,,JMO's

Pretty sure you could have a good conversation with the Broxburn Bullet about club and fed pigeons as well John :emoticon-0136-giggle:

Be it old bird, young bird,50 miles or 500 miles he is at the top of the sheet :emoticon-0137-clapping:

May be wrong as I checked it fairly quickly

I think there is only ONE fancier who has taken an open position in the SNFC Gold Cup race for the last 5 years consecutively.

Without looking who do you think it is??

Very interesting fact Lewis if you're right enough.

Would be interesting to know how many done it from say '76 > '81, '86 > '91, '96 > '01, to see the comparisons to nowadays. I'll bet someone has all the results and could check it out, Finding them is the problem

Who in your opinion is the best distance fliers in scotland ???

What results do they have?

thanks

what distance constitutes a long distance bird/fancier

500/600/700/or further

short distance 0- 250

middle distance 250- 500

middle to long distance 500- 650

long distance 650 plus

only posted as an example as to distances

pick from flyer consistently scoring in the chosen band

forget about the inland races and ypres

they arnt of any distance to qualify as distance races

Sir Robert Cormack I believe was on every Kings Cup result from 1968-2003 excluding 1997

Was always of the opinion,

0-200 Sprint

200-400 Middle

400-600 Long

600+ Extreme.

never been a fixed agreed band for racing terms

under 240 miles to me is sprint ( my inland )

240+ - 400's - middle distance

500+ long distance

intresting getting a few views on this john

could be a diff outlook on this from the north sec

as some guys up here fly over 600 miles for all the channel races except ypres

and you would class that as extreme distance

and i would class as distance

Leave it with me.I know the man who has them all :)

I was able to get the Anderson Bros 1939 Rennes win from him-the last loft in my federation to have won the Gold Cup.As well as Johnny Kirkpatrick's "Coronation Express" race.

When the guys in the SNFC are getting day birds at 600 miles plus then that to me is not extreme distance jmo 1000 miles plus now that's extreme distance more of a homing event than a race jmo

Sandy bain must surely be considered,I often wonder how many national positions sandy would have collected had he moved to duns 30/40yrs ago.He still knocks them in be it club, fed or national with great consistancy even now. Lang may continue.

I agree just the other day i was trying to find the 1955 gold cup result , the guy who won it J Hodgson gave me my first pigeons and one went on to score twice from the nationals .

been on the forum a few years now and always find these type of questions only cause problems,as a fancier who has studied scottish national flying club results for years and marvelled at top distance pigeons from all areas of scotland it can be unfair sometimes to fanciers in unfashionable locations as they can be timing exceptional pigeons which in all honesty have little or no chance of winning the race.jmo :) :) :)

I think the performances put up by rab Hamilton of campus in early nineties was fantastic.when u thinker won the east section averayes flying against competition from eyemouth in the south east to Montrose in the north east and his oft was probably one of the furthest west in the east section.I think he was also runner up in the overall averages as well.competition was a bit stuttering those days as well
