who would you go to for distance birds

find a local distance fanciers who does well with not keeping too many birds and scores regularly from these long hauls. :partick-thistle-Crest: imo that would be a good start. :)

Dont think you need to stay local theres no hard and fast rules in the pigeon game thats for sure. The theories will be hit on the head when the racing starts and by the way i see that the vandenabeeles for example which are a belgian middle distance family can be brought into this country and win just about everything straight away up to 500miles no need for this acclimatisation nonesense with they pigeons or the camphius jannsens or vanhee or lefebre dhaenen or verheye they all won straight away. so why cant the belgian long distance strains win at 500mile plus to say that you need to bring local pigeons in disnae make sense to me theres good and bad pigeons everywhere it getting the good ones thats the hard part. being where you are i would go to top welsh people as its same kind of racing (hard)and they not mob flyers like the english

Most my club members fly around 10 birds a week I find the phrase English and mob flyers insulting to say the least , at maximum I race 36 young birds and 18 pair of old birds at full capacity , think have 12 pair for next year 24 birds :emoticon-0127-lipssealed: :emoticon-0127-lipssealed: :emoticon-0127-lipssealed:

It disnae matter how many you keep or send to 500mile its only the quality ones that will do the job.

You get big senders in every corner of UK not just England , only difference is you could say in an argument the terrain in Wales similar to Scotland so a good test over similar terrain , I welcome these flyers as these keep my overall costs down supplying many birds for only a handful of prizes only ever one winner of a race why keep a loft of also flown's beaten by loft mate and so on ;)

If the national clubs weren't such a hassle and a expense I'd gladly send around 12 at a time maximum ;) no need for numbers unless you don't know what you have or how to judge a birds ability or fitness , most send numbers to create a favourable drag I'd rather have a leader than loads of followers ;) The old adage is if you throw enough pennys at the hole yer bound to get a few in ;)

i agree with you there mate . back to bernys question... theres a few top men around lee buddle geoff cooper mike mitchel plus many good birds in scotland padfeilds john ludlam ja rake in wales you could go on mike mitchel and halstead fly only small teams with great effect

i think it`s a wee bit unfair to have a go at the big senders they pay the feed bill an example was the great eddie newcombe used to send 30/40 to the nat they brought a 12 bird limit in and he thrashed the lot of us lol but know what you getting at .

no one in my country anyway cause they always keep the good ones believe me, of course they will give you the ones they dont want. probably louella corbetts etc no point in them keeping the good ones there all for sale ,most of the old fanciers were you would have got a good one are long dead.

look at nfc tarbes last year 1st open 740miles sending one bird 2nd open 31 birds 600 (i think) not having a go just admire small team lofts jhon halstead in my eyes is prob one of the best all round flyers in the uk does well at all distances with a few cocks

Can see what your sayin Adam but regardless of how many the loft that was 2nd sent he still conditioned a bird to finish 2nd open in a NFC race from 600 miles.
