Red mist

Wayne Rooney's red card, which overshadowed England's qualification for Euro 2012

http://img.skysports.com/11/10/660x350/WayneRooney_2661890.jpgStupid. Irresponsible. Out of control. Wayne Rooney was all three as he was shown the red card for a second-half moment of madness when he lunged through the back of Montenegro centre-back Miodrag Dzudovic as England stumbled into the finals of Euro 2012.

Yes, England drew 2-2. True, they finished unbeaten in Group G. Yet Rooney's red card, which gave him the indignity of joining David Beckham as the only two players to be dismissed twice in an England shirt, somehow stripped bare the mental frailty of Fabio Capello's team.

Put it this way, Germany and Spain and Holland and the rest of Europe's top teams will not be shaking in their boots after an England performance which began with supreme confidence and ended with them holding on in tatters against a nation with a population of 650,000, only a little higher than Manchester.

So do not dust off the flags of St George just yet. Keep the lid on all those expectations. England are going to Poland and Ukraine but Rooney will be suspended for the start of their finals campaign.

How much was the sending off down to the frustration of the last few days in which his father, who has protested his innocence, was arrested and bailed in connection with a betting investigation?

Capello insisted Rooney's head was in the right place. It clearly was not, when it mattered.

Rooney let the side down, but the entire team, who had strolled into a 2-0 lead, followed suit in one of the most ragged second 45 minutes of Capello's reign.

It doesn't matter how good you are you can't play footy on the bench and to make it worse a team can't play with ten men.

Stop the little shits pay for a month and donate it to a charity that has it's back to the wall.

Like I have so very often stated, he should never ever play for England! Rooney for England is a joke! A sad and very costly one to boot..., which he should have been booted out 3 -4 years back. Sending off, giving away ludicrous penalties, and ALWAYS under performing and never achieving in an English shirt. Many are such players! Great with club members that serve them well, but lack any thinking or control for themselves, and self esteem.

Don't managers ever learn?

Look at Barnes, one half decent game for England against Brazil... Was that a fluke :emoticon-0138-thinking:

One of the best club men of all time Dalglish. A great club player, yes undoubtedly world class... but only two half decent games for Scotland.

How Shearer ever got back in and kept a shirt is beyond belief! Went 30 odd games never scoring.

Time to forget 'Club' performances and have a side of thinkers and 100% triers as to Prima Donna's. Of course some cam compete at the highest level... Greaves and Linekar, Bremmer, Law, both Charltons etc. etc.

Some like Rooney should be made to pay own fare and spectators fees if they want to watch.

Lampard! :emoticon-0126-nerd::emoticon-0136-giggle:

No room for him ... etc. of course as a penalty player...

11 eh! Must be a manager of Zimbabwe 4th division eh!

NEVER EVER done anything for his country! JUST name a time when he has done a jot, worked a flanker, or been any good for England.

Well as for comparing him to Beckham... that's a Joke. Beckham stood up to be counted. Scored IMPORTANT goals and fed, and made goals. Was inspirational to the team and fans alike. He wore his heart on his sleeve for COUNTRY besides his club unlike the *expletive removed* Rooney!

Yes as a club player I'd have Rooney in my team any time... as for raising his game, trying, and even thinking for England level! Well he wouldn’t even be allowed to follow the coach in his Lambergenie. Fact is facts. He hasn't the mentality to be any good at national level. A waste of feeding him, let alone giving him space … Unless by himself in a dessert!

FA to wait on Rooney appeal

Bevington confirms legal team are studying regulations

The Football Association is waiting to learn the length of Wayne Rooney's international suspension before considering whether to appeal to Uefa.

England's star man was sent off by referee Wolfgang Stark in Friday's draw with Montenegro, which booked a place at Euro 2012, after petulantly kicking out at Miodrag Dzudovic.

Rooney is facing at least a one-match suspension and will consequently be banned for the Three Lions' opening game of next summer's finals in Poland and Ukraine.

Uefa could even decide to increase the punishment to as many as three matches, although match official Stark has suggested the striker's acceptance of his dismissal could work in his favour

Action

If his punishment was increased, Rooney could miss all of England's Euro 2012 group games and his absence would come as a significant setback for manager Fabio Capello

But FA director of communications Adrian Bevington does not want to speculate on a possible appeal, "That is something we will have to consider.

"We obviously have our own legal people looking through the regulations and we are fully up to speed as to where we stand with that.

"But it would be wrong of me to say we will take any kind of action in response to something Uefa haven't done yet.

"So let's see where we get to with Uefa and, if it is a one-game suspension, then we will move on from there."

If I were the man in charge Rooney would be watching the Euro's from he's home. The only way England would win it is if they played as a team and Rooney I'm afraid thinks he's above all and sundry. Time to send out a message me thinks, no single person who's attitude puts himself above team and country will be entertained.

100% correct ... It would be bad enough if the prima Donna ever turned in a a half decent performance, which of course he never has, let alone a good one!

A touch of class, magic... well would be easier to pee in the Queens ear from 50 yards in a head wind than Rooney to have a incling of performing ... outside of the Brothal that is :emoticon-0137-clapping::emoticon-0137-clapping::emoticon-0140-rofl::emoticon-0140-rofl:
