quackie Posted September 9, 2011 Report Posted September 9, 2011 as said by others a lot is down to the weather this year also what you must remember you are playing with nature nothing is gauranteed with this system and nature has its own way of biting back
Wiley Posted September 9, 2011 Report Posted September 9, 2011 i always get one or two a year, however i tend to find the ones that do moult more flights tend to be from the same parents. However out of interest when breeding do you keep the lights on when youngsters have hatched as this can be another reason why they moult
greenlands Posted September 9, 2011 Report Posted September 9, 2011 Noticed a while back mine are all over the place flight wise ???
ovy1255 Posted September 9, 2011 Report Posted September 9, 2011 some do suprise you but on the whole most should be ok remember to hold them, put lights on till 11.00 every night when you take them off the dark.

THE ANSWER IS IN YOUR FEEDING ;)
Guest Owen Posted September 9, 2011 Report Posted September 9, 2011 I think you must have the sexes running together because that will cause problems with the moult. Mine are looosing their 2nd flight right, having been on darkness of about the same as yours, but I race the sexes separately. Mind you even that brings it's problems because mine are flying for hours at a time and I have the suspicion that they are chasing other peoples' birds to find mates. I let the young cocks out tonight, in dark misty conditions, and the last have only just got back. They must have flown for 2 1/2 hours at least. I am getting concerned that I could lose some of them if this goes on. I would like to basket train them rather than have them roaming far and wide but the weather here is terrible.
adam owen Posted September 9, 2011 Report Posted September 9, 2011 why train owen when u can save ya money wen they flying like that i have mine out once a day and they fly between 2 and 2half hours they av had 4 traing spins to 15 mile and they cuming really well 3 firsts and two seconds from 5 races flown as didnt send first two just a thought and plus it save u going up and dwn tha bank all time
yeboah Posted September 9, 2011 Report Posted September 9, 2011 When i had a really good year with the darkies they were all at diff stages flightwise ,on day of basketing for our national i handled them and noticed one cheq wf cock had thrown two flights on both wings with his hen about to lay ,which suggested to me super form ,result 2nd section ,not tried darkness much but personally would be more worried if they were not throwing ,jmo .ps they were darkened to suit my friend as i was of to work early so times were from 8pm to midday ---16hrs worked great .
Tony C Posted September 9, 2011 Report Posted September 9, 2011 To get to the bottom of the problem you'll have to go back to when they threw their first flight. If they threw it whilst the loft was in the so called darkening stage (pre 21st June) then that would suggest the loft wasn't darkened down enough. If they held a full wing up to the 21st June then started to throw flights like confetti then I believe it to be a feeding issue, perhaps fed a feed too rich in fat/oil based seeds.I race my darkness youngsters paired which I believe helps suppress the moult.

Sexes were separated until last Saturday Racing - feed high protein Saturday Sunday Monday, widowhood corn rest of weekflights thrown whilst on dark for some - but one in particular - no flights thrown whilst on the dark - and now only 4 flights left - just can't work it out We don't put lights on at all (unless an emergency! ie - one returning home in the dark last week from a cr*p race)
