Delboy Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 Trained my birds today and they returned at 1.30pm only to be met by the neighbours cats roaming the surrounding garedens. Some of them are still out flying. Its pitch dark here and I can see them dots in the sky, whizzing about like *expletive removed* bats.Since I moved here , Ive had this every year with birds flying into the night because of frights theyve had.Every week in racing the best I will do is lose 2-3 minutes, no matter the distance. This is definately caused by the amount of cats in my area.Is it *expletive removed* worth it, conditioning birds to fly home, then sit out every *expletive removed* training toss, every *expletive removed* race because of fear. The poor bassas are petrified.
Novice Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 It's a long winter with dark nights.Plod away at it and you will get there.

Guest challengerlofts Posted August 31, 2011 Report Posted August 31, 2011 Got the same problem here, with the neighbour cats. Can't stop them to keep coming to my shed. My next door neighbour got 2 old cats and theres another 2 kittens just came last sunday. Are they okay being around on the shed at night?

Guest IB Posted September 1, 2011 Report Posted September 1, 2011 Birds need to feel secure in their own home and you deffo don't want a cat in your garden unless it's your own. They are said to be territorial and will keep other cats out. Think that will be a male cat though, we had a female, and although she never went near the birds , she attracted other cats into my parents' garden. I've an electronic repeller that seems to work. There are also others fitted with water jets available, that are also recommended by members here on forum. One that I would go for in future is an electric fence. Not Jurassic Park kind, just 2 wires running along top of boundary walls and loft.
