Guest IB Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 I think you need to put a number on it. I have room for 40 pigeons, say 10 stock and 30 racers. I'd like to keep less than that.

adam owen Posted August 10, 2011 Author Report Posted August 10, 2011 well i can put a 16foot loft in my new house rather than travel 5miles to the allotment where they are know so i was thinking of keeping 6 short distance cocks and 6 short middle distance hens to go with them on roundabout keep the cocks for inland racing only and the hens to fly the over seas races every other week.have 6 stock cocks which will get paired with 6 distance hens thease will get paired later for the long races 450 plus .the hens will fly roundabout at first then repaired accordanlly for there long race .by doing it like this i can have fresh birds for all the races and by having not alot of birds it wont cost as much to keep and race and also i can have 120% attention with them.they can have the best of everything as well .ybs i will breed 25 to go in 8foot section and they will fly on darkness and all the cocks will fly every inland race hens will fly all inland and the channel race on programe .its harder as u dont have big teams but if you have quallity i thi k it can be done wat you think

geordie1234 Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 i agree very few can win week in week out with a small team and compete at both this is why i am just going for distance not got the room for more so plan to have 12 pair of distance birds and thats it

Guest IB Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 how many young birds to you breed m8 I take 30 rings. Last year I wintered 20 YBs. Again, I'd like to get down to 20 rings.
dal2 Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 i agree very few can win week in week out with a small team and compete at both So you would not consider keepin two diffo breeds ie one sprint one distance? A large team does give you an advantage at sprint but not the be all and end all! Its the amount of time you put into either sprint or distance racin that is key not how much room you have! Patience, faith, method and good DOOS?
adam owen Posted August 10, 2011 Author Report Posted August 10, 2011 the cocks would be sprint the hens would be channell birds
big blue bar Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 think you ll find it hard to compete just in the distance . just have to read some of the posts about the national races this year . alot of good birds lost . but good luck
fletch Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 we started with 13 widdowood cocks at start of seasonand we were verry competative won 9 races with hem and took high fed postions upto 5000 birds, ony error was that we asked them to do to much so had a poor niort race but was in prizes every other water raceand there is 10 cocks left at end of seasonits quality not quantity
lvlasked Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 i have 7 ybs and i will only be breeding about 15 next year thats all i will ever breed i think even know im in the midddle of building a bigger loft
