Henrik Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 As Midlothian prepare to go down the west route with their youngbirds I,m wondering how many more phone calls I,m going to get asking if we can take youngsters with us for training. Unfortuanately the answer has to be we cant take them as we only have so many spaces on the Pentland Transporter and have to think of our own members needs first.

Fair Play Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 You might be wrong Blaz but again you might be right you will never know until it is tried and I must applaud Midlothian for giving it a try. Many years ago I never thought they would put a man on the moon.

Henrik Posted July 11, 2011 Author Report Posted July 11, 2011 Aye used to like the west route myself. Not much difference now as regards the Peregrines as they are even on Cockenzie Power Station now and I can see them most days hunting over the Pans. Was just out taking ring numbers for the ets and I knew I had lost a few ybs but have only 34 left from 60 rings having given 4 away to sales, so the rest have prob been taken by Bop n thats before the racing starts. Did you say Midlothian start on Sat?

I have raced both routes in the last two seasons! Nae diffo either way! Hawk attacks and losses just the same!

william Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 east or west we will still lose our birds, but hopfully not as many flying down the west/middle rout, every time you go down in to the durham area the losses shot up and the next week the transporter was half empty but some fanciers are only interested in there overfly and not in trying to save our youngbird teams so we have to try it for there benifit
Guest IB Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 You'll have no bother with space after a few races, and I doubt there will be many queuing up then to fill it.

alec guinness Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 Overfly i loose loads of over fly racing east but would rather loose my over fly than send my birds down through beatock and moffat on the west route ,, i will quite happily be last or not have a clock set with my yb,s just to get left with a descent amount at the end of the season , was left with fek all down the west for years and its 100 times worse now got to agree bob, people have short memories i have given my opinion a few times on pb regarding east v west as i feel after racing the last 12 years between both over 3 year periods i cant understand why people want to go west!!!!!!!!!!!!anyway let the madness begin. :( :(
b.massey Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 Overfly i loose loads of over fly racing east but would rather loose my over fly than send my birds down through beatock and moffat on the west route ,, i will quite happily be last or not have a clock set with my yb,s just to get left with a descent amount at the end of the season , was left with fek all down the west for years and its 100 times worse now  You not think hawks are down East? I fly Midlothian and happy to try. Cleaned out east anyways so worth a go. If it dont work then fine but we tried something to see

If it dont work then fine but we tried something to seeyes there are hawks down the east now aswell m8 but the birds on the east have somewhere to go to get away from the bassas ,, when there hemed in the hills aboot the width off 2 football parks and a few precies attak they have no wherre to go apart from back the way they came or into the ground or trees at 100mph have always had yb left down the east allthough not as good as it was a few years back , but beats getting cleaned out down the west , 80 yb gone in 2 races fae 60 miles ,, use boys might find your birds head straight east and away from thye percies which might help a bit but on the west route our dont have that option as they have to come through moffatt at some point
Fair Play Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 Hear,Hear Mr Massey at least you are physically trying rather than the old paper warriors verbal rhetoric
blucock Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 You not think hawks are down East? I fly Midlothian and happy to try. Cleaned out east anyways so worth a go. If it dont work then fine but we tried something to see Should be utter chaos then, with Ayrshire and other west feds going down the East route to Arniston, Berwick and the like..... clashing, crossing over each other - best sort out the transporters meeting to swap strags on a friday night somewhere in the middle ?? Baz
Guest bigda Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 how far do you want to race your birds out in the west. as if you get the first 4 wrong you will have nothing worth keeping. as they will not be racing home, just dodging up the road. you will need to have emergency strategy in place to save your season, and be able and agreed should things go wrong that you change direction should you need to. with out calling another meeting

BazREALISTICALLY IF MINE CLASH WITH PENTLAND BIRDS AND CANNY FIND THERE WAY HOME FROM EDINBURGH ,, WELL ALL I CAN SAY IS A DONT THINK A WOULD BE WANTING THEM BACK
Guest bigda Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 and for the guys that are cock sure of the west, it would be great if you could keep up the report as to the birdage and returns, as i am sure it will be done on the east route.
tyson Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 you know I am disgusted at hearing that midlothian members want to train there young birds with pentland fed ( short memories) ther was a democratic vote taken and the west won although it was a close vote but members should abide by the vote not go and fill the coffers of another federation so all the work that has been done ie new transporter built new crates etc all to go down the tube because some members dont want to support ther own federation so I say this to all midlothian members support your federation or you may find next year you wont have one so just think lads what happens every year down the east when ever we get into the durham area and beyond losses losses losses so I dont think the west can be any worse one thing you elimanate is the clashing with the english feds so support your federation

Delboy Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 Good luck going down west, the only thing in your favour is you wont be coming up the M74 and A74.I believe your line of flight will be up the A7 or east of Peebles, Selkirk area. A much favourable line than the guys in the west section as far as BOP goes.
