sapper756 Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 I was still waiting for 2 birds from Saturdays race from Ripon. When tonight I heard a disturbance in the loft, when I entered I saw 2 cocks attempting to mount a bird in the corner of the loft, when I chased the 2 cocks away, I found my 2year old Molveld cock, that was missing from Saturdayhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0179-headbang.gifhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0179-headbang.gifhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0179-headbang.gif

JohnQuinn Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 Hey yee's should see the state the Falcon is in Hope he picks up Brian, looks like he'll be ok and will be back on the road for you next season.
THE FIFER Posted June 15, 2011 Report Posted June 15, 2011 you should e-mail those photos to the local paper and the RSPCA, pm me the race/distance and lib, and when the bird got home, will send it to the press,
Guest IB Posted June 15, 2011 Report Posted June 15, 2011 It's when you get them coming home in a state like that makes you appreciate just how hardy racing pigeons are. I wish they could talk. My guess is that the bird has had two lucky escapes. The wing damage I reckon happened during a tussle with a peregrine, its missed the bird's back and punched a hole in the wing, probably grounding the pigeon. I'm unsure what caused the damage to the neck behind the head. I've only seen damage like that once before, when one of my birds returned months after a sticky race (Seaham Harbour) and still don't know what caused it - she had feathers sticking out all round her neck (looked like a frilled lizard). It looks like a failed decapitation attempt after the bird grounded, peregrine followed it down, or then set upon by crows? Hope the bird makes a full recovery.
racingsprint Posted June 15, 2011 Report Posted June 15, 2011 sapper that bird definetly deserves a chance mate cannae belevie it made it home n that state guid luck wi it
Guest homestead Posted June 15, 2011 Report Posted June 15, 2011 it surprises me how they can manage to get home after an attack like that.. one for the stock loft Brian ?? a good idea of fifers to try and get the press to publish the pictures
fletch Posted June 15, 2011 Report Posted June 15, 2011 sorry to see mate brave bird hope he can have a happy retirement if he cant get back on the road,
Guest Basin View Posted June 15, 2011 Report Posted June 15, 2011 Hope he recovers...think he will they are tough nuts. Is he white flighted on the one wing only ? If he only has the white flights on the one wing that may have saved him...as the Bop may have made the white flights the attack focus, and therefore missed his body. Anyway glad you have him home and can aid his recovery.
