alex wight Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 i like to inject them when they are strong and i feel that they can cope with it, which they normally do. I try and not to leave it till the last minute so that they are settled after the injection.
The engineer Posted April 24, 2011 Author Report Posted April 24, 2011 Wae wot?I thought they had to be inoculated prior to racing.

Rooster J. Cogburn Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 When did it become compulsory to vaccinate doos for PMV in the UK?? Does anybody feel it has a negative effect on pigeons??
JohnQuinn Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 Due to the way the immune system develops in Yb's, they should be injected against PMV at 20 to 22 days old, for maximum effect on them.
Guest stb- Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 A JAG MINE A FEW WEEKS AFORE RACING THEM THEY ALL GET JAB THEN GO FOR THERE FIRST TOSS NEVER HAD NO PROBS WAY IT
Jumbo Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 Due to the way the immune system develops in Yb's, they should be injected against PMV at 20 to 22 days old, for maximum effect on them. That's the way John, i do mine when still in the nest , never had any go backwards
greenlands Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 Do mine when I put the last ones through, that way they all get done at the same time.
Guest strapper Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 when should YB's be injected. imject them when you feel like it m8..there is no set time but you must vaccinate a few weeks before racing them, everyone has their method of when they do them but i vaccinate when they are all parted and do them all together.if you require any info just pm me
Guest IB Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 when should YB's be injected. Colombovac - minimum age 3 weeks; Nobilis - minimum age 5 weeks. Fanciers have their own preferences, some do when weaning, others a few weeks before training and racing. What is the cut off prior to racing them. The bird isn't made immune when you inject the vaccine, it takes time:- Colombovac - needs done minimum 2 weeks before training / racing ; Nobilis - needs done minimum 4 weeks before training / racing.
greenlands Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 I note that some fanciers are now vaccinating their young birds twice.I am going to use Columbovac.I put my last youngens through tonight,I'll give them a week to adjust to their new surroundings then vaccinate, when would you advise vaccinating for the second time or would you not do them again.?? Lindsay

Lindsay If you was to do it again i would do it 14 days before the first young bird race. However i only ever do them the once.
Guest IB Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 When did it become compulsory to vaccinate doos for PMV in the UK?? Does anybody feel it has a negative effect on pigeons?? Had a quick look at history of the disease. It first hit Britain June 1983. Vaccination was voluntary from 1984 and made compulsory from 1994. Don't know of any negative effects.

I've never really seen any negative effects as its been compulsory since I started racing so don't know any different.Just when I hear fanciers talking of the good old days, when doos were apparrently healthier and losses were less.Makes me wonder.Think I'm barking up the wrong tree with PMV jagging.Theres always been losses and you'd have to say theres more than one contributing factor to some of the eratic racing in recent years.

ALF Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 I KNOW SOMEONE WHO HAS NEVER VACCINATED HIS DOOS AS HE DOES'NT AGREE WITH IT AND HIS DOOS ARE AND ALWAYS HAVE BEEN A1... IT MAKES YOU THINK
JohnQuinn Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 I KNOW SOMEONE WHO HAS NEVER VACCINATED HIS DOOS AS HE DOES'NT AGREE WITH IT AND HIS DOOS ARE AND ALWAYS HAVE BEEN A1... IT MAKES YOU THINK I know someone who didn't agree with it and refused to inject his doos. He lost the lot in one month, November. I remember because i also konw someone who missed them only ONE year and he lost his entire young bird team, ALSO in November. For the sake of about £28 i'll Never risk it.!!
