demolition man Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 If your were to pay say £500 for 6 birds, and then you get 6 free from another loft, you race all 12 through the program, you only have room to keep 6 the following year which 6 would you keep? lets say none have done any thing special although when you were given the free birds you were told it would take 2 years for these to start performing. Just interested in your views. Regards
Guest youngboy Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 it depends if the 6 free were from a average fancier i suppose id keep the ones i spent me money on but if off a good fancier and u no for defo off good pigeon i wouldn have a club maybe 50/50 good question doh
hawked again Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 40 years ago it would be not only possible but quite common, no chance now with so many BOP.
dal2 Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 If I hd payed £500 they would be in stock loft!
REDROCKET Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 if i was told to expect the best from the freebies as 2 yr olds but was expecting to do something from the paid for birds as y/b's and done nothing id keep 4 of the freebies and the best 2 i payed for and hope for the best.
ovy1255 Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 i am too impatient-2 years old to score -----------no good to me .500 and no results -thinking are the birds good enough or is the management letting them down?remember with young birds -health fitness training and motivation.SOMETHING HAS TO CHANGE IF YOU HAVE NO RESULTS.
Guest spin cycle Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 IMO you would need to keep all 12 and replace older birds because you can't really know until the end of 2 years. IF the older birds are to good to get rid of then why would you bring in ybs from 2 outside sources? BUT if you only want 6 ybs...don't buy the 500 pound ones...spend the money on racing, training and making your loft as efficient as possible JMO
DJWa Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 if they have all flown the y/b program then they will all be good birdsif you want to keep just 6 send 3 and 3 to the young bird nationalif you get them back from there MAKE ROOM FOR THEM

If yer settin oot on buildin a distance family 2yrs will no be enuff!

budgie Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 Wullies correct you have to give them 3 yrs and be patient. If after that and they dont score its binbag includind the parents?
Guest ENDFLIGHT Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 race the 12, and keep the ones you have left, and do not put a glass cage over the £500 lot jmo for what it is worth?good luck anyway
Guest IB Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 IMO if they have been raced out as YBs and are still there, all of them deserve a perch. I don't think price comes into it.
Roland Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 Tough one that. Think I would look at what the 'Performances' were of the parents, and what loft. Of course if I'd bought in stock birds, I know I have to have 3 years to see what id what with them ... But again, if I had 6 from a mate, I know that they were pretty good too or I wouldn't have them in first place. So would judge parents on A. What type of system they were raced on and B. what distance and any hard day birds. C. Those bred from stock would be a little behind there I fear. So if the given ones were from good performing birds at the distance etc. They are the ones I'd retain. Maybe 3 cocks from one and three hens from the other if really level on pointers.
Roland Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 Yep when we look at 'Price and Stock and pedigrees' etc. one most have at the foremost in mind that 90% of Stockbirds will breed culls at least, and of those that breed a good one or two will still breed 90% culls.
