hotrod Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 im not sure the exact numbers in club around 24/25 ,in fed around 90/100 but with fenfrew now just about fkd and 4 of their clubs looking to get into glasgow then could be around 140/150 this year, but i think birdage counts for nowt ,if for instance u have a big club say 30 members and around 500/600 birds but only 4/5 win on a regular bases, then u have a club with say 7 members but all can win out of turn and only send 150 birds ,so your saying tam (king billy)because u fly in the 30 member club your winner is better than the 7 member winner ? i always say quality always beets quantity any day of the week .ps this is 2 fictional clubs im talking about

hotrod Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 WHARE DID I SAY ANY THING ABOUT WINING BUT NOW I HAVE YOUR ATENTION I WAS JUST WONDIRING HOW BIG SOME OF THE CLUBS AND FEDS ARE ON THE BASICS FOR EXAMPLE 10 FIRST CLUBS 4MEMBERS 10 FIRST FEDS 200 BIRDS DOO I NEED TO SAY ANY MORE IT MUST BE HARDER TO WIN IN THE BIG CLUBS AND FEDS STAUART HOTROD YOU SHOULD NO THAT AND ONLY QUALITY KICKS IN AFTER THE 200ML MARK INTO A NORTH WIND AND MIND THE 98% THINGaye tam i know exactly what your on about ,my opinion is racing doesny really start till after 200 mile , i dont know about your club/fed but in most clubs a lot have stopped for the season when ours are just starting ,yes it sounds great 1st club 500 birds 1st fed 5000 birds , but if you fly in a club/fed with say 200 birds/2000 birds ,the bigger birdage doesny make the winner better a winner. and also the bigger fed could mean a larger area covering the fed and as we all know the wind normally determines what part of the fed wins ,in the shorter races anyway. AND IF YOU ADVERTISE TO SELL BIRDS OFF THESE MULTI WINNERS BIRDAGE BOTH CLUB AND FED SHOULD BE INCLUDED.ps wont be long now around 8 weeks to the 1st race/toss
Craig05 Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 I race in Horden homing society (average 400 - 500 birds pwSouth East Durham fed (average between 2500 - 3000 birds pwUp North Combine (could be anything up to 30 000 birds in the combine races. :egyptian: :egyptian:
dal2 Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 Our club has 9 members that send around 250 birds! Nae idea how many members in the solway fed but they send around 2000. My club racing is dominated mostly by one member and the rest of us win when we can.Good wee club where competion and good manners seem to be constant!
Walter swanston Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 Solway Fed has around 160 members and around 132 lofts sending just over 2000 pigeons on a good day.Usually runs fairly amicably but can have its moments
fletch Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 the wolverhampton fed has got to be one of the biggest with over 9000 birds going in the earlier races yb and old
eastcoaster Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 like hot rod says the bird beating 5000 doo`s is no better than the one beating 300 ,in our own case our hen that was 3rd open bovington was also 5th fed wetherby 693 birds 15th fed newark 418 birds but was still good enough against 5000+ with the snfc , as they say you can only beat what is put in front of you .
frank-123 Posted February 18, 2011 Report Posted February 18, 2011 HERD WEE DEVELN IS MAKEING A COME BACK YOU WILL NEAD TO BE ON YOUR GAME TO BEAT HIM LO he is in blantyre club tam
Craig05 Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 like hot rod says the bird beating 5000 doo`s is no better than the one beating 300 ,in our own case our hen that was 3rd open bovington was also 5th fed wetherby 693 birds 15th fed newark 418 birds but was still good enough against 5000+ with the snfc , as they say you can only beat what is put in front of you . i couldnt disagree with this more :emoticon-0138-thinking: if you take a combine race, a pigeon that wins his club and fed lets say 600 birds, could end up 50th combine 28000 birds. Sorry, not as good as the combine winner IMO
WulDon Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 Our club, Downfield Friendly RPC has 11 lofts, and 16 members at the moment, our largest birdage in 2010 was 351 birds... competition is red hot with 6x1st Fed being won by members last year from 18 races.
chrissyboy1 Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 Our club Clarkston & District has 9 lofts and 13 members sends on average 80-120 birds and is in the central section of Lanarkshire Federation and in my opinion has took some good fed positions at all distances last couple of years. So i think your fed positions are more of a guide to the quality of your loft, especially over 250miles.(drag hard to compete against early races) Tom Corrie jnr
frank-123 Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 with lanarkshire being one of the biggest you would think they would have a website and the last couple of years have been quite poor regarding fed reports in the pigeon press hopefully tom corrie jnr will help us forward with his reports in 2011
chrissyboy1 Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 The reports can only be as good as the information provided by its clubs.
hotrod Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 i couldnt disagree with this more :emoticon-0138-thinking: if you take a combine race, a pigeon that wins his club and fed lets say 600 birds, could end up 50th combine 28000 birds. Sorry, not as good as the combine winner IMOwell mate what i was on about is, u say 50th open 28000 birds isny as good as the winner ,why not ,if the first 49 are 20/30 miles to the east of the 50th open and its a strong west wind and it wasnt too far behind the winner ,then i would say imho that the 50th open was the best bird in the race .
DJWa Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 well mate what i was on about is, u say 50th open 28000 birds isny as good as the winner ,why not ,if the first 49 are 20/30 miles to the east of the 50th open and its a strong west wind and it wasnt too far behind the winner ,then i would say imho that the 50th open was the best bird in the race . its not the 1st time a facier who tops the fed sees a kit of birds in the same race go over his loft beforehe gets his fed topper which can easily be 5 minutes behind the 1st batchso in this case where do you recon the best bird in the race was
Craig05 Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 well mate what i was on about is, u say 50th open 28000 birds isny as good as the winner ,why not ,if the first 49 are 20/30 miles to the east of the 50th open and its a strong west wind and it wasnt too far behind the winner ,then i would say imho that the 50th open was the best bird in the race . the comment as i read it was that the bird beating 5000 birds was no better than one beating 300? no mention of wind or loft location. anyway, not going to fall out over this, just i know which one i would rather spend my money on
