ALF Posted December 26, 2010 Report Posted December 26, 2010 Mine huvnae been cleaned oot in over a month now mostly due to me breaking my wrist and i know what you are saying about the sh** pyrimads Jim as they are creeping nearer and nearer the bottom perches but the ddos are shining Before i went on holiday i put my hens in the end section of the y/b loft which has a wire cabey door on the front of it so i nailed the door shut put a full size sheet of perspex up in front of it to keep the snow and rain out but leaves at least a 10in gap for frash air to get in and all is well in there even if it is bloody cauld in it every day! My 24ft old bird race loft is empty so sometime this week i will transfer them all over into it if we get a thaw i have 2 y/b's in the stock loft nearly ready to come oot the nest tae hatched 2nd december from a pair of eggs i missed!! but both y/b's look fine and i have rung them with old rings just to see how they go and the loft they are in husnae been cleaned oot this year i leave them in peace in the stock loft and disturb them as little as possible but they get plenty of grub and fresh water thats all they need

Guest IB Posted December 26, 2010 Report Posted December 26, 2010 I think piles of droppings bother us more than the pigeons. Didn't get any cleaning done yesterday (frozen) and managed only the one end today. Hoping to get birds out a bit more during the coming week.

Walter swanston Posted December 26, 2010 Report Posted December 26, 2010 Anybody that can let doos out in the winter is seriously lucky.Down here in Dumfriesshire where there is an infestation of sparrow hawks and peregrines if you let them out all you are doing is feeding predators.
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted December 26, 2010 Report Posted December 26, 2010 Managed to scrape and remove 45kg, feel 100 times better now and the doos even thanked me for all the hard work I put in today

Guest IB Posted December 26, 2010 Report Posted December 26, 2010 dont be crazy keep them in ..they'll just get thumpt Anybody that can let doos out in the winter is seriously lucky.Down here in Dumfriesshire where there is an infestation of sparrow hawks and peregrines if you let them out all you are doing is feeding predators. I have said before that I consider myself very lucky that I do not have the same predator problems here that others elsewhere have been plagued with. And ‘elsewhere’ can be as little as a mile away. My birds when they do go out are aware of what is going on around them, and I vary the times I let them out. At this time of year, the most mine get out is one sex on Saturday, and the other sex on Sunday, but recent weather has put paid to that.
Roland Posted December 26, 2010 Report Posted December 26, 2010 Agree with Sammy. Also the cold weather cleans ups and kills a lot of nasties. Was the time this was inperative in days gone by. Maybe syill helps a lot. Obviously still is, but, and I'll have to consult I.B. many have through over use of such products as Baytril, that they are becoming immuned to even being frozen, and just become dormant till the warmth returns and they invade in hordes.
Guest Tooshy Boy Posted December 26, 2010 Report Posted December 26, 2010 GUTTED THE LOFT OUT TODAY ??? KNACKERED IT WAS STILL A BIT FROZEN.BUT ITS DONE NOW FELL A LOT BETTER FOR IT .///
