Walter swanston Posted October 25, 2010 Report Posted October 25, 2010 I wondered what members might think of the question of ventilation on my new loft.An aviary runs cpmpletely along the front of the loft and fresh air enters as it is completely open to the elements but adequately sheltered from the rain.Pigeons trap through three traps in the aviary over ETS pads and in to their separate Cock,Hen and young bird sections where their times are recorded on a base unit in the integral corn store.Air is expelled through a ventilation strip at the rear

showman Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Very nice, presentable loft Walter, much the same type of design I have in my mind for the show racers. Unfortunately, I have some 'old fashioned' ideas about ventilation. As I said, my new loft will be very similar to yours, I will however have the ability to close the sections off from the 'bay' at the front in winter, because a cold wind or breeze coming into the loft will strip show condition in no time, yet I'll still fit a low level louvre (doesn't have to be big) for each section with 1/4" square mesh behind to prevent me old rodent mates from visiting!!All in all a very nice loft Walter, which you can be well proud of,and I sincerely wish you every success in your endeavours. PS Thanks for posting the picture, because now I can see the idea I have in my mind !! Cheers mate
PIGEON_MAN Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Always liked to have air coming in at floor level at the front and going out at roof level at the back, cracking loft but would still have louves across the bottom into each section at least.
Walter swanston Posted October 26, 2010 Author Report Posted October 26, 2010 There is a corridor between the aviary and the sections which are completely open from roof to floor only spars separate them from the corridor they have constant fresh air.I believe this loft might have been influenced from a Belgian design

Walter swanston Posted October 26, 2010 Author Report Posted October 26, 2010 Well Steven I bet you could guess!!
sapper756 Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 What a cracking loft Walter, I personally would fit some vents just above floor level, along the front of the loft m8http://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif

lightning fast Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 I am going back to opening up my loft with more air getting in, the only thing I am worried about is drafts,so I am going to put draft free membrane over the mesh, but a very tidy loft mate
bewted Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 you can never have enough ventilation where pigeons are concerned,,,,,the more the better !!!
