Pigeon racin is a full on hobby. You will only get oot wot you put in. If you want tae win wae younguns then darkness is THE only way for start to finish condition.

dal2 Posted September 20, 2010 Report Posted September 20, 2010 how did fanciers manage it years ago before the darkness was out Everybody raced tae the last race wae doos wae nae cover and their lugs stickin oot. There are always birds that held the moult better than others but nowt like darkies.
billt Posted September 20, 2010 Report Posted September 20, 2010 I Have not raced for over 20yrs but obviously we had no problem flying the whole program then, I still have my birds and they are on permanent open loft and the y/birds never fall to pieces but the old birds do, I've no idea why this is

Wot time of year are yer young bred? ?
billt Posted September 20, 2010 Report Posted September 20, 2010 Do you split thee sexes at the end of the season? Wot time of year are yer young bred? ?No always left together, Most are March/April hatched
Guest Hey Presto Posted September 20, 2010 Report Posted September 20, 2010 going natural with old birds flying open flap staying on the darkness with my ybs
dal2 Posted September 20, 2010 Report Posted September 20, 2010 No always left together, Most are March/April hatched Think this is probs the answer. Have heard a lot o older boys that left an open hole all year and felt the moult was better. The old doos will pick their own breedin time and once the racin is finished for them and the feedin and excersise changed then that triggered the moult very quickly. The young were bred quite late and held off the body moult while the wing went as norm.

Guest challengerlofts Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 Natural as usual. The best thing that I can do for my birds. Last year, after I got late to work. I stop training my birds 35miles, 3x a week. I just gave them an exercise in the early morning. It's been a hard work & huge challenge for me when I won 2x on the Knock Out Race. This year, I must try harder. Good Luck to everyone.
dal2 Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 Got ma first 25 on dark the next 24 will be nat
aye ready Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 after doing the darkness the last 3 years i'm going natural this year as i don't and probably never will fly the young bird national so i don't see why i should put myself and the birds thru all that work for our fed programme which consists of 6 races out to ripon 158 mls my team of natural young birds 4 yrs ago competed with the darkies in my club winning 4 from the 6 races they competed in although they didn't win the yb average which went to a fancier on the darkness,my own opinion is by all means darken them if your intention is to compete in specialist clubs/midweek racing or national racing jmo
