Best of luck mate. I brought mine 40 miles this morning, libbed at 6.07am and so far nothing home. After i libbed i spotted the Peregrine not far away so hope the **** didnt hit them. They have 2 races over them so fingers crossed.

i was wondering as to you thoughts of training yb,s out to as far as 40 mile.this year my yb,s had only 2 at ten mile before the 1st race 60 mile 29 out of 30 home.this week yb,s have had one yesterday from 15 mile . i have changed my training after specking to the late Rab Ritchie last year.he gave his yb,s 2 training tosses at 10 mile before the 1st race thats all the training they had .he went on to win races last year as well as topping the fed from one of them and beat me for yb cup.his theory was the birds have come home from the 1st race 60 mile so why should i train them from 10 20 30 mile ect they know their way home home from 60 son.they don,t need to get stressed out getting put in basket evry day or evry other day they don,t need to run the gauntlet of the f****** hawks. he also said give the yb,s as much flying round the loft as you can.i won,t follow it to the letter but i wont train as much as i did last year 1 maybe 2 per week no further than 15 mile.

Blaz many years ago i was asked by an old fancier why i trained my birds. My obvious answer was to learn them where home was. His simple answer was if yo need to teach them where there home is you have a problem!

 

Worth thinking about sometimes, why do we train???, especially if all is well around the lofts.

Agree totally, races are won in the loft not the training basket. If their fitness is in question by all means train them but if not, concentrate on motivation, that's what brings results

See the bit about the youngsters flying about the loft as much as possible do you think you could leave your ybs out all day if possible

To be honest were we live in the Midlands there are thousands of pounds to be flown for (at least 50k between the Cosworth and Teurlings gold ring races) so there are a lot of fanciers who only race yb's.....I assure you they are trained as often as possible 2 times sometimes 3 times a day from anything between 7 to 50 miles.

My own in previous years are trained 2 times a day from 17/18 miles no flying at all around the loft, this year because of time and diesel prices I have given them 7 mile tosses 2 times a day, it will be interesting to see how they perform on Saturday.......in our last club race there were 19 seconds between the 1st 10 birds, 4 members from 6 sent all had birds arrive at the same time, these 4 train at least once a day, I really believe the area you live in as a lot to do with it, if a member trains hard and others dont in my opinion and experience they will win more, just my opinion lads

Birds started arriving at 7.44am (13) - within 20 mins of this they were all in but well flown & broke up, rest came in 2s, & 3s. Glad to get them this was the first toss this week.

i leave yb,s on open bowl all day not evry day .you need to make sure you dont have a cat problem to do this .as i have 3 cats and 2 dogs .very few cats come near my lofts.

I'm gonny gee that a go with the later ones I think that will bring them on quicker than just an hour everynight

Had just a 8 mile throw this morn and a 32 miler tonight for team 1 and 2. All home this morn before i got home but tonights toss was a bit of a tooth puller, signs of a percy strike but all home. Team 3 are going to have a busy time!

i had 24 away today at 35 mile and they hit birds because 22 came together after 55 mins to find 7 were strays and hen got all ones still down 1

If youngsters are flying well at home why bother, they are homing pigeons

Took my yb team to hopetoun house near south Queens ferry maybe 25/30 miles to whats it called Cumbernauld all home 35 mins.Whith regards training they need to learn to break so its importent to get birds awway with other doo's.

 

Other than this its motivation at the loft end, that will get you a prize card not belting up and down the road every day.

 

However many roads lead to Rome get a good balance and you will get your turn,add a bit of luck and you mite even win out of turn
