billt Posted August 30, 2010 Report Posted August 30, 2010 What is the main advantages of splitting the sexes and disadvantages of not. I really don't know whether r not to do as you know I only have a 10x6 so not sure if I should split them up[/ If you leave them together they will choose their own mates, thats ok if you don't mind but if you want to choose what birds to pair together best to separate them

geordie1234 Posted September 18, 2010 Author Report Posted September 18, 2010 Is there any truth in if you cut your birds feeding back they will fly longer
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted September 19, 2010 Report Posted September 19, 2010 Is there any truth in if you cut your birds feeding back they will fly longer To an extent George aye but wouldna worry about it just now with your young pigeons going through their first moult.A lot of of folk give their doos as much as they want at this stage of the season. Doo well
Daisymay Posted September 19, 2010 Report Posted September 19, 2010 It's about striking a balance between protiens and carbrohydrates and what distance your flying, not about cutting back on feeding. Can you do a full shift on half your diet ???.

sapper756 Posted September 21, 2010 Report Posted September 21, 2010 Just in the loft there cleaning out and noticed some dried in blood on a perch and a wee bit on the floor had a look at the birds they all look fine any ideas ? not uncommon, usually the result of a claw being caught, check your birds feet, but nothing to worry abouthttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif seen this many times
geordie1234 Posted September 24, 2010 Author Report Posted September 24, 2010 how easy is it to break pigeons could some of the members post there methods up thanks george
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted September 24, 2010 Report Posted September 24, 2010 how easy is it to break pigeons could some of the members post there methods up thanks george Can be tricky.Done it in the past and some of them won the same season.Depends if your breaking one or two doos into a loft that already has homed doos in it or your trying to shift an entire team to a new loft and location. Best method I've heard for breaking a doo into your existing loft with your birds was from a fancier who claims to have broken any old pigeon hes ever got easily. He treats them like strays which quite often once they've come in your hut are hard to get rid of.Basically once he gets them in his basket or whatever he just leaves them there for two or three days-no food,no water he'll sit the basket outside when his doos are out so the new doo can see them going in through the trap to their feed. When he's about to shout them in on the third or fourth day he lets the doo hes trying to break out the basket with them and it drops in the sputnik for a feed in a drink.Bobs your uncle, fanny's your auntie. It'll be interesting to hear some of the more experienced guys views on breaking doos though. cheers
geordie1234 Posted September 24, 2010 Author Report Posted September 24, 2010 cheers mate i didnt realise you would be able to do a full team how would you manage that
