ALF Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 Very true, however, what do you use? GOT A HOLE CUT NEXT TO THE 3RD BOWL WHERE THE ETS PAD IS INSIDE THE LOFT BUT ON THE YOUNG BIRD LOFT I USED THIS LAST YEAR BUT WILL BE CHANGING IT THIS YEAR
retired Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 These are pictures of my new traps before i got them on the loft
Guest Owen Posted May 8, 2010 Report Posted May 8, 2010 For widowhood cocks, I do not like any form of landing board outside the loft, such as sputnics. I like a fold up landing board that is only made available to the birds when I am ready to let them in. Then I have a set of bob wires leading through to a second landing board fitted inside, 2" below the level of the outside one. My ETS pad is fitted inside the internal landing board. The advantge of this system is that the birds are not trying to land all the time, and hanging about. They know that I want them in when they see the board in the down position. The idea of the inside board is to make entry to the loft as easy as possible for the birds. You can place some peanuts or trapping seed on the inside board if you want to. I have trained my birds to trap quickly when they see the board in the open position and some of them can land and go through the bob wires all in one movement. Sputnics and the like would not compete when it comes to speed through the trap. This system works really well for youngsters if you are using and ETS system. But if you are not it is better to fix the level of the landing boards to be roughly at chest high. Then you can train the birds to come in while you are standing there. And as they go for the trapping seed or broken peanuts they are easy to pick up and clock. You fix the clock on a small shelf close to the landing board. Doing it this way you will definately compete with ETS for speed over the first couple of pigeons.
Guest bakes Posted May 8, 2010 Report Posted May 8, 2010 oldbird loft sputniks yb loft stall traps all the best
sapper756 Posted May 8, 2010 Author Report Posted May 8, 2010 These are pictures of my new traps before i got them on the loft http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk265/pigeonglobe/SAM_0517.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk265/pigeonglobe/SAM_0518.jpg Really smart traps Chris, who made them for you m8?
PIGEON_MAN Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 If your using a ETS pad or pads just inside the arches you will have to fit bob wires on the front or else they will be illegal, got one very simular the one on the back of the Murray and Mills catalogue but have had to fix bobs to it now.
geordie1234 Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 im really not sure which way i should trap my birds ive got a sputnik but obody seems to use them
geordie1234 Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 is there anything that youcan do to stop your burds jumping up through the sputnik spotted one of the ybs doing it today i really want to start putting them out before work and when they come back from flying go in thereself and stay in
wings Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 anyone????Not a lot you can do i had it all the time with sputniks they don't seem to do it when they reach maturity they are a little to big. you could try making the gaps smaller so that they cannot get that first wing through.
Guest youngboy Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 well i ave a sputnik for one half team and other team have either chouce of open door or landing board
PATTY BHOY Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 GOT A HOLE CUT NEXT TO THE 3RD BOWL WHERE THE ETS PAD IS INSIDE THE LOFT BUT ON THE YOUNG BIRD LOFT I USED THIS LAST YEAR BUT WILL BE CHANGING IT THIS YEAR size is that first loft alf,did you buy it or build it yourself.
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 All the lofts have stall traps atm. Messed around with widowhood a bit in the past-Nothing nicer than seeing them fly right in the open door to their box
JohnQuinn Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 I've got fold up landing boards ( 4ft by 2ft ) on both O/B and Y/B lofts, mostly to keep cats etc off at night and to darken the yb loft down, the yb's go through bob wires and the old ones walk in through a hole without the wires, works for me
geordie1234 Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 a need to change my sputnik asap just got them all in there before i go to work and three jumped back out the top just no good enough noo a need to leave them out aw day
T_T Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 I have an external landing board for my youngsters. They land on it and drop through one of four holes set in a framework and onto the ETS pad. These holes are 4" apart and set at a 45 degree angle. Once their in, they cannot get out because in their attempt to do so, they have to use their wings and the bob holes being only 4" wide, makes escape impossible.
Wiley Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 Open door for widowhood flying, young birds any form of trap
