Dear all

I may be taking up the post as the club secretary for my local flying club next year. I will be taking over from someone who has been a fantastic sec for many years. I will of course be having a comprehensive handover from him in the next week or so. I would welcome any tips that secs could give me on how they run their club admin etc. :) Happy Christmas to you all

Don't be frighten, for a starter, nor frightened ever to ask. And never lok for it to be hard, time consuming and often thankless yes, but hard for a common sense approach. Never have favourites and speak out straight when right. Never bend the rules for anyone ... except me of course - and you will gone down as a great and always be remembered fondly. Good luck ...

P.s you just lost your first I. Q test by accepting lol.

If the retiring sec.as been doing a good job for years then who better to ask than him, obviously the members have been happy with what he as done so i would get as much help and guidance from him as you can,by what you have said i,m sure he will help you.

How many of our regional secretearies  are in contact  themselves with "terra firma" these days? Most will admit  they are  half way "up the wall",  with present day pigeon politics. Good luck! and merry Xmas to those who put their heads in the noose, for a bowl of rice.  ;)  ic.

Vic if no one put their head in the noose as you put it,we wouldnt have any clubs to fly in, granted they need to wear a suit of armour, but  i say good on you for taking the job on,when most run and hide from it

Lol, there is a thought! Yes ask, and if not heeded stuff them, do it your own way and cobblers to them all lol. Never too proud to seek advice, wiegh it up and do your own thing. - Remember many will have an hidden agenda, like getting 'the make up crowd' to plough in hard earnt cash for them to win and pay for their way!

ONE THING TO REMEMBER IS GET ALL DISTANCES AS THEY CAN CHANGE RACES LIKE THE WEATHER AND NOTHING WORSE THAN NOT HAVING THE DISTANCES TO HAND SO THE MINUTE THERE IS A CHANGE OR NEW MEMBER GET THE DISTANCES. GOOD LUCK I HAVE BEEN SEC TO MY CLUB FOR THE LAST 6 YEARS AND I AM GIVING IT UP THIS YEAR TRYED LAST YEAR BUT NO ONE WOULD TAKE THE JOB . KEEP A NOTE OR RECIPT OF EVERY THING YOU BUY OR PAY FOR . JUST A COUPLE OF THINGS I LEARNT THE HARD WAY.

I agree with Maverick, distances are the bane of a Secretary's lot, especially when you return to a racepoint after a couple of years break, you tend to forget the member who joined last year and assume you've got all the distances. Mind you the RPRA Email distance service is excellent in an emergency.

Well gal your job is cut out for you and hopefully it won't be a bumpy ride.  Take the help offered and don't make rash decisions and know the rules and you will be fine.  Good luck with your undertaking.  Ed
