One thing I think is good but unfortunately are dying out is the presentation nights, they used to be that all clubs had a dinner dance or something but not now, they got all members and friends together.

Our club has race nights and moots! Personally I'm not keen on the race nights as i've never been a fan of horse racing, but it helps make a few bob for the club, and its a canny night out crack wise!

We have shows to see the rest of the year out, its a good day out showing the birds, a few beers  ;D ;D ;D and dinner to go with that, and aslo meeting other club members.

We also open during the winter months for a chat about the racing past etc.

It is amazing how things has changed in the last 20 years, thinking back nearly every club surrounding me used to hold shows this would start on Monday night and carry right through to the Sunday afternoon with the exception of a Friday night, also a fair few clubs would hold quiz nights but for whatever reason this seems to have died away like so many other things in the sport :'( :'(. Luckily my own club still has is presentation night which cannot be said for a lot of clubs but this is down to 3 members bringing 12 to 18 friends each. :( :( :(

ps...we also have a a good raffle with plenty of prizes and 2 big bottles of spirits to throw the 50p's at this always brings in a few bob aswell ;)

Its very similar down here Gareth. The quiz nights, or moots as we call them here, are dying out. The problem being i think is that the same faces are apearing as the panels right around the north east too regularly, and it seems to be going "stale!" Same faces, same crack, sort of thing! With falling membership numbers, it unfortunately becomes too expensive to get people to travel from too afar to freshen things up as expenses sharp mount up! Its sad, but occasionally you get the odd "import" thats worth making the effort for!

We have the prize night in mid November sharing it with another club, 3 meetings and thats it, sorry to go on about the good old days but 20 odd years ago we filled the local Hotel, 3 course dinner the lot with about 150 people, we are lucky to get 25 now. Sign of the times

yes, this is another trend thats dissapearing,, club shows ,, loanhead used to hold open shows every week through out the winter ,, different classes  each week ,usually of a weekday evening,,many other clubs did the same , this was a great social night out, no arguements ,,only what everyone was "going to do,,next year ;D"  then there were many fed open shows at weekends , this was a day out :) there were many "moots"which usually provided a few laughs ;D , but really informative for fanciers old and new alike. then there was off course your club presentation , then, a collar and tie job with set tables and a good meal,, now most clubs hand the trophies out in the pub with" jeans" on :)  another thing that has dissapeared was the ladies nom,, which , off course encouraged the wifes, it wasnt a cash prize , but anything of their choice,  to the value of :)which they were presented to at the" doo dance"and had their pics taken  :) with all their finary on :)   then off course was the fanciers kids christmas party , where all the kids got a present from santa  ;D[ paid for by the dads ;D,], but the wives did most of the work for this .[usually pics in the local paper]    all  this got families taking part and kept the wifes happy [just for a wee while ;D ;D ;D]  all this, cleverly made sense ,, also clubs organising bus trips to maybe a night club,  for members and their freinds,,,, .nowt now,,except  argueing ;D  but looking at the good side  :)  its never too late to change :-/ :)

Club presentation which is always well supported, we also support other local club presentation nights. We try to get a couple of race nights going as well as a quiz night. The new year we organise a young bird breeder buyer sale and there's always the pigeon shows. When there's nothing on we meet in our club and put the world to rights :)

Oh Yes! I should add we also listen to all the rumours that do the rounds during the of season and give them marks out of 10 for content and originality  ;D ;D ;D

I have been to one moot - and wouldn't go out of my way to go to another one - of 5 panellists - I didn't like three of them - and I'd never met them before - first impressions eh???

in my club we used to have shows and a presention dinner now we only have meetings which always has a heated arguement to keep us all warm on a cold night

things are not as good as they  used to be in the good old days
