Silverdale Lofts Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 If Louella says they are Jan aardens who can say different Jack :X :X :X :X ;) ;) ;)

Michael J Burden Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 They had that colour in their old Aardens in the 80's and 90's. Pre the Smaragd birds. I saw them.

jimmy white Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 They had that colour in their old Aardens in the 80's and 90's. Pre the Smaragd birds. I saw them. yip i can vouch for that you often get the odd one now in their jan- aarden kit of 6 birds
jimmy white Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 heres one someone bought from louela
kirky Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 for me the true aardens are dark cheq pieds and white flights no others, look at birds that the house of aardens advertise. these are the best not crossed.
OLDYELLOW Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 no reason for Jan Ardens not to have Opals some of the Jan Ardens have a bronze on the chequering and red from Invincible sprirt , but i do think there wildermesh certainly look like wildermesch but they can do 570 miles

Agree with that. All jan aardens in my loft are darks and dark pieds. Also crossed with delbars and got blue pieds and cheqs
OLDYELLOW Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 yup thats right he was , and also Marsay and Taylor topped the U.N.C with a Wildermesch blue hen
Roland Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 for me the true aardens are dark cheq pieds and white flights no others, look at birds that the house of aardens advertise. these are the best not crossed. Marvellous eh! Even Jan Ardens son say after a very short while the few left via his dad were no longer there, and was amazed that so many had these 'True Bloodlines'. Personally no matter what the Name / Strain, it's what they acheived under any name. After all 'A rose smells just as sweet under any other name'!
BLACK W F Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 the best guy to ask about Jan Ardens would be BOB McDONALD of Fraserbourgh he brought the first into the country and still has them many lofts winning with BOBS JA Cheers Alan
pjc Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Bob had the best but the last batch i saw at Blackpool for sale wern't a patch on the birds he had in the 80's! I think they have become to inbred no and removed from the originals although the blood lines are there for a good outcross. Phil
BLACK W F Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 i have not been over to BOBS for a long time but he is to good a fancier to let that happen you should go to his lofts and i bet you will change your mind cheers Alan

Michael J Burden Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 The thing is those opals are recessive so could of well have been hiding in those early cheqs etc. It only comes out when both parents give the yb the gene unless of course the cock is an opal.
