Best thing about being a pigeon fancier

Mine was going into the loft & watching my community of pigeons going about their business just beng in and about the birds.

i love sitting watching the sky as they fly around something special watching them bombing around loft when there in view   knowing you give them there freedom and they'll all be happy to see you and get fed , theres too many to list  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I Have to agree with Vincent, time flies so quickly when waiting for your first bird home. Our next door neighbour has unofficially made himself our time keeper, he's there every race and loves to wait for the birds to arrive

Being actively involved with your birds. Seeing your first youngsters of the breeding season chipping out. Seeing a hen glowing while on the nest. Watching your birds coming into form. Winning. Timing your birds from hard classic races. The Adrenalin rush when your first one arrives. Making new friends through the birds.

Absolute best is the summer - long days, and birds splashing about in a bath, then going back into their shed.  Whilst I'm having a bottle and a book on the hammock

there are so many great things about being a pigeon fancier, racing, showing or just keeping for pleasure, it doesn't matter how bad a day you have had when you walk in your loft all your worries are forgotten, stress drains away and they are just pure pleasure!

If you keep your birds in good health & good clean conditions and keep them for the love of them  ......you  are a

I notice the other thread has more posts 24 to this one's 16 which tends to prove what has been said for a long time - there are more downs than ups in pigeons.  

 

Can't beat seeing the bird come home, behind or not. Maybes with a little more work ....

the thing that give you a real buzz is standing in the clubroom waiting to do the result listening to all the hard luck storries , i could'nt get it in , i dropped the rubber,the neighbour put her washing out, next door weans were playing fitba, then hearing that you have won , your grinning from ear to ear, but the best for me is still, waiting for your birds be it the first or last welcomeing them back giving them a little small sead and a peanut or two , no matter what the weather is

The shows in the winter. Real buzz when another fancier appreciates your pigeon with giving it a card and maybe even a red one. Also the breeding time. Hoping theres a champion going to come out one of the nest boxes

A few of us (7) all race to the same area in our Club ( all lofts in a line about 150 yd stretch ) and if you get the 1st pigeon on a saturday it gives you a buzz as you noramally are'nt that far away in the club but it's better at the longer races were most of us take a few beers down and the barby is on and you just sit and relax out in the park with a few beers and wait for the doos 8) 8)
