i put a letter of resignation in to my secretary, after roughly a week or so later ive changed my mind i;ll just stay put.(club has not had agm yet ) so i phoned my secretary and asked him to " bin the letter " he informed me that i cannot withdraw my letter , what he said was  i have to put another letter in to join. so he'll read out the resignation then read out  the application. is this right?

I would have thought that your letter would have been destroyed especially when they havent had there meeting, what can the outcome be when they have there meeting, you may not get voted in, so you will have to look at getting in another club, strange to me with this one.  :-/ :-/ :-/ Hope you get all sorted out before the meeting though.

What would it have been to rip the letter up, nothing. Just being silly if you ask me.  :P

all he has to do is state that a letter of resignation from you was recieved but has since been withdrawn...no need for new letter.

i would contact your union to clarify the matter and see if this is the rules.

Surely you can withdraw your letter as your AGM has not taken place sounds a bit strange as as your letter should remain dormant until the meeting is opened. Might be wrong maybe one of the club secs. could put you right

hes wrong if he dose that, the vote could go against you as you would have to leave the agm while they took a vote  and they might not let you in again send another letter to him and state your where not in sound state of mind  at the time to safe gaurd your self ;)

Surely commom sence should prevail here,if the club as not held the AGM then surely he could just rip it up and no one would be the wiser, unless a agenda as been sent out to the other club members showing your resignation then I guess he would have to read it out and then read out your application at the next ordinary meeting, hope youve got no enemies in the club because you might not get back in.

as you put your resignation in writing, you should put a letter in before agm to withdraw your resignation and secretary would have to read both letters out to members,

If you put in a letter of resignation without saying at a certain date etc you are resigning as the date of the letter, ok the secretary could have withdrawn it, but now you would have to put a letter in asking for your resignation to be withdrawn, then it will be up to the members at the agm, dont see any reason for them to refuse if you just want to change your mind,

in our club we read one letter out with guy resigning proposed and seconded to accept

then another letter read out to accept resigned member to join partnership proposed and seconded

but maybe your secertary is being over keen at his job

letters of resignations are read out at the agm, but how can members accept or not accept, ??? if someone resigns they resign, in the situation above it was different he wanted to resign as a member and jion as a partner, cant see why you have to get a proposer and seconder to say its ok for someone to resign ???

5) Any member wishing to resign must do so in writing to the club Secretary not later than the date

of the Annual General Meeting but prior to election of Office Bearers for ensuing year

otherwise he will be held responsible for the annual subscription of the ensuing year. At this

time he will pay up all arrears and forfeit any claim to the property of the club.

shu rules. club rules rule 5
