Guest cloudview Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 to me a champion would be a bird thats been in the first twenty in the upnorth combine , 10 times .

Guest pigeonboyno1 Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 I think a champion pigeon is when it returns from all the races that you send it to even tho it deosn't win anything it would still call it a champion anyway.
blaz Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 as i have a few cumpions that have taken on other flyers champions and won and won easy no names needed
just ask me Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 well for me it has to be down to consistent performances in top competition weather that be distance or sprint what ever competition so tough now in certain areas also remember that u can have an excellent bird that maybe can never become a so called champion due to loft location ive seen many races and i do like to look at results where a bird down the result in my opinion was the best bird on the day
aye ready Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 john lennox and son's red cheq apyly named aye ready was 6 times in the snfc into coalburn in the west sect wasn't always in the open result but still a good doo

Guest spin cycle Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 i would've thought a 'champion' pigeon is one that had won a national or classic. for UNC over the water perhaps?
Guest Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 All Gold Award winning pigeons must be granted Champion status,As much as a 1st open winning pigeon. Some may have achieved higher positions than others but never the less Champions.
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 was it fortune lady that was in the snfc 10 times maybe gareth could confirm this Top pigeon and 1 of a kind as she took ten positions ranging from 6th open to 186th open with an average of 3000 birds flying 500+ miles in the SNFC. Champion pigeons for me would be pigeons that score consistently at the field that they specialise in.

Your quite right Vincent as in the last 10 years in the SNFC there have been 14 gold award winners compared to 60 national winners.
Guest Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 I dunno anymore, i've seen champions referred to and never even seen a basket other than being transferred between lofts!
Guest Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 You can give a champion pigeon to an idiot and it will fail but you can give an idiot pigeon to a champion fancier annd it will win, just an old saying but there is alot of truth in there!,you get out what you put in,breeding helps but not half as much as hard work, dedication and comon sense
Delboy Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 was it fortune lady that was in the snfc 10 times maybe gareth could confirm this She was 13 times across water, scoring 10 top positions. The first DOUBLE GOLD AWARD winner in Scotland. Fortune Lady s dam and g.dam both won Gold awards as well scoring 6 and 7 times respectively. What a line of pigeons, dream stuff.
Tony C Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 I think all the unions should get together and define what they deem to be a 'Champion' and award some form of certificate to pigeons that fall into this category. Only then can you call a said pigeon a Champion.
maverick Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 AULD REEKIE look at this birds results club fed and national now that is a champion, all this about racing what about the breeders
pjc Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 I think all the unions should get together and define what they deem to be a 'Champion' and award some form of certificate to pigeons that fall into this category. Only then can you call a said pigeon a Champion. There should be some kind of points system where a bird is awarded points for position/winning relative to competition/birdage etc. When a bird wins a point or points the owner gets it verified from the organisation and this is then registered with the union. Once the bird has acumulated a certain amount of points it can be awarded a champion certificate, then and only then can it be called a champion. Currently anybody can name anything a champion as some studs do year after year!
