Beanz Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 What do fanciers on allotments power their ETS with, a normal car battery or a leisure battery? Paul
OLDYELLOW Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 or solar pannels ? or wind turbine , think most will use batterys
OLDYELLOW Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 think car batterys as can easily charge them and have back up available , im glad im no longer on a allotment much harder on the allotments
Beanz Posted April 8, 2009 Author Report Posted April 8, 2009 Personally I think its great wish I'd done it 20 years ago, no neighbour hassle. The birds seem to exercise better and seem more content. Paul
OLDYELLOW Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 i had too many flyers to far to travel up a great hill and couldnt put the time in , not to mention carrying corn up other than that and no electric or kettle was great
OLDYELLOW Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 suppose if you can afford it a little generator be handy as long as far away from loft
Henrik Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 You can get a power pack that is for jump starting cars.
Speckled Jim Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 Use a car battery, What you need to get is a dc/ac power convertor, one that you would use in your car if you wanted to run/charge a laptop off car battery, they plug into cigarette lighter. you then need a cigarette lighter socket with a pos and neg alligator clip leads connected that clip onto batt terminals. simply plug conertor into socket thats clipped onto batt terminals plug power socket of clock into convertor and clock away. All these parts should be available from a good electroincs store. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-AC-Anywhere-Power-Inverter/dp/B0001GYNHO You can get them cheaper than this if you shop around. Also you need to recharge car batt regulary after clocking
REDROCKET Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 the unicon comes with a set of leads with crocidile clips attached you simply clip onto the car battery , power pack (12v) supply ect. the unicon does the rest we started off with the battery/ power pack (always make sure you have a back up) then we went up market to a petrol driven generator fill it with petrol stick it in a corner out the way that supplies 240v plug in its normal transformer to the unit ,bobs your uncle fannies yer aunty and any two's a pair.

Taylorsloft Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 car battery is the best you can get solar chargers http://sunshinesolar.co.uk
mic Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 never charged batteries up since last feb 08 using solar panels,75watt panels gets a good charge,it powers lights tv digi box elec fan and the ets, etc,you need good batterys, to do the job,no problems been on 2years now,on the allotments
pjc Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 I thought they recomended leisure batteries! Also leisure batteries are easier to carry as the normally come with carry handles!
Guest numpty01 Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 how would you manage with security and the system would you have to take it home then get it resealed following week
pjc Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 how would you manage with security and the system would you have to take it home then get it resealed following week if the pads are within the loft as per RPRA rules and the loft is secure then no worry as you wouldn't leave the clock in the loft
Guest numpty01 Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 some lofts i have been to recantly the pads are under the sputnic outside loft ?????? :-/
naedoos Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 Leisure batteries are designed to work for longer periods of time, car batteries are designed for high power over a short time, eg starting your car
pjc Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 some lofts i have been to recantly the pads are under the sputnic outside loft ?????? :-/ then they are not within the rules!
greenlands Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 Trickle charge a car battery, this will do the job for £13. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/12v-Solar-Panel-Battery-charger-Camping-Caravan-Car-Van_W0QQitemZ250361446152QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Gadgets?hash=item250361446152&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1690%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318
ALF Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 then they are not within the rules! They are in Scotland
pjc Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 the welsh rules are diff again, the bird must be within the confines of the loft or trapping system which means the pad has to be loft side of any bob wires or within a sputnik but the WHPU has no limit on the number of pads!
