Guest joshdonlan Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Am i right in thinking that Ad Schaerlackens uses Garlic and Vineger in the water at the same time? Also he says that theres no difference between balsamic vinegar and apple cider vinegar? Any thoughts
greenlands Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Hi Josh ,I've never read about cider vinegar and garlic in the water at the same time, but balsamic vinegar, have you seen the price ££££££££££. Lindsay
Saffer Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Most certainly. I take 500 ml of cider vinegar, I add a whole head of peeled garlic. They get this 4 times a week. The Vinegar keeps garlic fresh and it infuses into vinegar. I add 10-15 ml per liter depending how hot it is. Got the tip from a top Belgium fancier. Saffer

gulkie Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 i have mixed them both for years and there is no sign of any ill effects so far sun/tues/wed every week ;)
Ulsterman Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 is it ok to keep using cider vinegar with newly hatched young in the nest.
Guest joshdonlan Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 I cant see it doing any harm as its natural product, but it may reduce water intake :-/ Not sure good question.
Guest strapper Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 i use fresh garlic cloves. peel the clove..use a wide knife to semi crush the clove ,i put one clove in the drinker. i also put vinegar in the water sometimes with the garlic. i would say garlic is a far more useful item/product to use than vinegar. my drinkers always stink of garlic.

Guest anto Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 yes on your dinner ha ha you could do with a smack of a good dinner

Novice Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 In this week's BHW page 9 there is a recipe for a tonic which uses both at the same time. The tonic also contains Naturaline and Lugols Iodine.

DAVIDL Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 i do use it but put 10ml per litre, iput 2 cloves in and some natualine all at the same time i just top the water up the next day ah right, and how long do you leave it in the loft........do you change and renew or give fresh water for the rest of the week ?
Guest IB Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 I'd be concerned that taste may put birds off drinking. Other bit is mixing alkaline garlic with an acid as there is a chemical reaction, but I don't know what happens when you do it.
celtic Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 Anybody use the pure garlic powder that you get from farmshops ?
wilkins Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 ah right, and how long do you leave it in the loft........do you change and renew or give fresh water for the rest of the week ? i leave it to next morning in the drinker then top it up next day, then they have fresh , but i have read of many top fanciers who are starting to just top the drinkers up each day including the great flier gary inkley , my birds look very well on this tonice , i also use a iron/iodine tonic as well and thats all i do each week
