Most certainly. I take 500 ml of cider vinegar, I add a whole head of peeled garlic. They get this 4 times a week. The Vinegar keeps garlic fresh and it infuses into vinegar. I add 10-15 ml per liter depending how hot it is. Got the tip from a top Belgium fancier. Saffer

Chaps I have used Red-Cell, great product, cheap and effective. What about Johnsons Pigeon Tonic, been around for years, same type of product. Never tried Johnsons myself, but its been around for years. Anyone use it Still, or is it old hat now? Regards Saffer

Birdman Put me in the same pot as Chris and Pigeonscout anyday. I know Chris has results from out of this world, and pigeonscout is no slouch. Could it be we all seem the same, as we evaluate and think about, odds, chances. And most important the hundreds of factors involved besides eyes. Pair 1 Bred 8 young, 6 Winners in 2003. Eyes must be right 8) Then for 2 years 12 youngsters later, and 1 winner, bad strike rate. Yet eyes, health, loft, food the same. Its pigeon racing, thats all. Then you visit a topper, he breeds 100 Young to get ten great yearlings. But yet another chap no longer racing or cannot fly a kite let alone pigeons, but he talks of high returns. good pigeons bred from eye pairs. Simple good old common sence tells you somethings fishy. I think you missing Pigeonscouts point, and its the most valid on the topic. We only have 1 measurement in this Game, Results. So instead of nit-picking posts, he posted Questions, and as yet I see no valisd answer. EG: Pigeonfancier X, he says give Garlic everyday. Now Pigeonfancier X swears by this. We must look for validity in the point, ie. Pigeonfancier X is Club champion, he has been 7 times out of the lat 10 years, and ver out the top 10 in the Fed. Weight and validity is very great on his point, as his results prove this. Hence an Eye sign man, has a huge bit of power, he can select better than anyone else. So his concentration of Quality is far higher than average Joe. Hence he should be a crack, champion flyer as result??? Thumper On that eye, If its a 1-2 year old, at 3-4 years it will have a far richer iris. My Guess, and its a 1000/1 guess, its a youngish bird thats done well on the road. It will make a good stock pigeon, if the breeding, balance and vitality is right. As I say I am making a big guess, it might be totally the opposite. Regards Saffer

Thumper I have been around and back again. I have an open mind. This topic relates to eyes, you asked about opinion. So I gave one, I think its a great one. A Eye that is not seen as often as when I lived in South Africa. Typical of the local birds, and what they would call long distance here. Show me a tail, wing and I will give my opinion. This relates to the Eye. I like it, nothing more nothing less. I dont follow theory, but results. Dont have a stance, the Eye is one of many things. Pigeonscout You a clever fancier, you have put forward great counter points. Not blind but yet to see them answered by the eye experts. Why can an Eye man select me breeders of winners, yet cannot even be a Club champion. With all this, surely, its certain that he will be a topper. Albear Know him quite well, I follow all he has to say. He is a true master and I feel he can show allot as he has the track record, but the gift he has, I cannot explain. Its a intial feeling. He once saw a basket at the butcher, pigeons to be eaten. He saw one took it home, and it was one of his foundation pigeons. He takes a pigeon, and he says after the intial visual look, its instant when in his hands. But he can intially see it from 10 meters away. I cannot tell you what he sees, or what he has, he cannot explain it either. A gift. Pigeonscout: You exactly correct 100% correct, you get what you breed for. The higher your performance criteria, the better your selection, the better your results. Pigeons are not certain, and not %. A pair can breed all winners in a nest(Eyes must be right :) Then the next 2 years give nothing, (Eyes must be wrong 8)) Nothing is right, and nothing is wrong in this game. Birdman You mention a touch, that some top fanciers have. Ludo Claesens, is known for this touch. But at the end of the day, if asked, Ludo says he is very lucky, and yes he is more lucky than most. He is possibly in the Top 5 in Europe at his distance. But he will never say something like, I can Pick only Good ones. I only attribute this gift to someone that can actually race pigeons, and has the track record to prove it. Only exception:Piet DeWreedt, we all still benefiting from his selections today. Pigeonscout: He puts forward the most sure method, one unlike Eyesign has stood fanciers in good stead for years. Its also foolproof. Less BS is always good. All The Best Saffer

Marius Good pigeon man, good pigeons. I always tried medicines, methods, lofts ect. Did this for 4 years. It was only when I got good pigeons did things come right. That is why forget expensive things, buy good pigeons. ESB3+ Emtryl(1teaspoon of each in 5 liters of water) For 3 days once a month. Doxy and Tylan( 3 Days once a month) Weeks inbetween, Sundays Providone Iodine 1 ml per liter. Chevita multivit + on Saturdays to all Pigeons. Teaspoon Honey per liter every Tuesday. Thats all Pigeons dont need any more. Its cheap and it works. Regards Saffer

Nothing comes out of a bottel. Good pigeons are bred in nests that are made by good pigeons. I went to Visit the late great Piet Alberts, he knew nothing at all about the list of feeds and medicine I gave him. I thought how can this monkey win so many races, how can a so called champion know so little. But I took home 2 of his pigeons, and I realised from the first nest. With those pigeons you neede very little knowlege at all. Kept simple, they won and won. I could give them anything and they still won. Pigeons mate, that all. Gars(AKA Petrol AKA Barley) Add 20% to your mix up to thursday night basketing. Forget the grams, or measure. Feed them till they dont want anymore Barley. Pigeons tell you how much they need. Also Heidelberg, South African conditions, are a million miles away from Europe. Trust me, tried it, it does not work. You can never apply the same method in both hemispheres. It does not work. Also those theories, forget them mate. Ask the Theoery man 1: When last did you fly a pigeon? 2. When last where you club champion? Forget Vitamins and all the rubbish. Get top class stock.
