alex wight Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 Does anyone go holiday, leaving their birds unattended? If so whats the best way to leave them, ie feeding and water. I,ve had someone look after them before, but feel awkward about putting him out. If there was a way around it i,d look at doing it, as he has his own work and pigeons to look after. I,d be away for 2 weeks, thanks in advance The time i will be going away, is when i,m finished racing old birds and preparing the young guns.
JohnQuinn Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 No real options for you. Its a bad time to be leaving doos to get on with it, especially Yb's. Reckon your mate is the best bet, just make sure he knows you appreciate it when you go through the Duty Free shop! No matter what you'll have to find someone that can at least get the youngsters out for a fly regularly.or they'll soften up and it'll take you another week or 2 to get them ready to race on your return. Good luck
clayton moore Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 Dont even contemplate leaving the birds alone.Think if roles were reversed would you do the same for your friend. You would even be in order to pay for help.
JADE Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 cant see how you could leave birds 2 weeks on their own. is there not a club mate who could help out and you could return the favour some time. pigeons and summer holidays dont mix
OLDYELLOW Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 yup im sure a friend be only too willing to help as i usualy get taken away at least once a year oops meant go on holiday
Guest grizzler Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 even if you could find a way of feedig/watering your birds for two weeks,it needs someone going in virtualy every day to make sure no birds become sick with illnes etc.jmo
Guest stb- Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 WOULD NOT LEAVE EM ALONE MY OLDER DAUGHTERS LOOK AFTER MINE IF IM AWAY THEY NEED SOMEONE THERE INCASE OF EMERGENCIES AND ALSO THERE WATER WOULD BE RANCID IF LEFT THAT LONG
sapper756 Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 Have to agree with the other posts, ask your friend, I,m sure he won,t mind, I look after a guy in our club,s birds at least twice a year, for 2 weeks at a time, and I don,t mind
dwh Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 GET YER SELF A PARTNER OR WHY NOT SEE IF SOMEONE IN THE CLUB HAS A M8 INTERESTED IN FLYING PIGEONS IF NOT NO WAY CAN R SHOULD YOU LEAVE LIVESTOCK OF ANY SORT FOR TWO WEEKS
OLDYELLOW Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 you could install automatic drinkers that would help with the watering problem , and get norban tucker bags that hold 25kg of corn , but im sure cheapest and easiest method is ask a friend
fletch Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 would never leave my birds for 2 days without somone going in, so get somone else to do it for ya only safe way
DJWa Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 you need someone to see to them alex the other option is to tell the family you will have to stay at home to look after the house but that doesnt usually go down to well
peterpau Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 I know a bloke who leaves his pen open and a bag of corn on the floor but it aint for me ;D

steve d Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 dont leave them m8 it only wants a nosey neighbour to telephone the RSPCA and you will be in big trouble regardless even if there is corn and water in the lofts, find a clubmate who goes away at a different time you look after his while he is away he returns the favour :)
