Buzzards

Anyone had them sitting on or near there lofts?

 

I always go into the garden to check gates etc in the morning before I let the dogs out.  This morning there was a Buzzard sat on top of our garage, quite scruffy looking but flew away when I approached it, or should I say scrabbled along the garage till it took off.  Quite used to seeing them flying high overhead as there are a few nesting pairs in the local area but never seen them sitting in the town before and definetly not at 6 am.   As we have small dogs and have had BOP try and lift one before, albeit a puppy had to wait for it to clear just in case.  Hopefully it's a one off visit.

Get them sitting on the loft odd times, and on the ground often. Apart from scaring the ybs to death. They are no problem :-)

We have four pairs in our immediate area but the have never shown any interest in our birds. They mostly feed on carrion but I have heard only one story of a dovecote that was attacked and eventually emptied by buzzards, she was adamant it was a buzzard :-/ :-/ :-/

If they are about the peregrines generally keep away and if they are low there's something dead laying somewhere unless they are just resting.

                       buzzards are starving due to the bad weather thats why they seem unusually tame

before i moved into the town , there was a pair very near my "old house" they often came around , but never (to my knowledge) came any where near the birds.   andy.

                       not the case in this area greenlands i wathed a female peregrine see off two buzzards they were getting interested in a pigeon that was killed by it  .

Are you saying your pigeons mob the buzzards :-/ :-/ :-/

well ,it seems that a lot of people dont know to mutch about most BOP, stop asuming and learn more then you can help to give your pigeons a easier time ,

Iv never seen pigeons mobbing bop  iv seen smaller birds doing it but never pigeons

There are many in the area where you live. They hunted and killed the breeding pheasants on the Blair Estate. They no longer breed pheasants there in open topped pens so there is no longer that food source.

They are very scruffy looking in close up.

My pigeons were stroke by a lager or huge falcon today.I heard the pigeon hit the window than i know something must happened and open the window,seeing the feathers flying in the sky,someone must be hurt.Hated them very much,how i regretful that once i set one free,maybe i should kill it.(dissappointed)(verymad)

Have had a pair of Buzzards nesting close to here for some years now. Never gave the pigeons any problems. When their young have fledged, it's great to watch their acrobatics in the air, and on a fine summers day love to see them soaring high above us.

I dont believe pigeons mob bop WHATS THE FIRST THING PIGEONS DO WHEN THEY see a bop there up and off there not up and attacking the bop maybe it does happen but iv never seen it happen in 30 years

same here mate, they will go and fly around a buzzard but perigrine no chance there off or diving into the loft

same here mate, they will go and fly around a buzzard but perigrine no chance there off or diving into the loft

 

My birds have to fly round the buzzards as theres 4 of them above my loft  most days they dont seem bothered about the buzzards but i have never seen them mobbing buzzards like other birds do as in dive bombing the buzzards

if the birds are just librated they will circle the bop but if they are on there line of flight and heading home they wont if you let your doos out the loft and a bop is thare they will circel to it clears

I  dont agree as i let my birds out when a sparrowhawk just landed on my house roof and my pigeons never took it upon themself to chase it away they all shot back in to the loft and let me chase it away they dont hesitate to trap when old percy is about

i did not mean that they chase the bop but they will circel it till it makes its move then they will open up to let it throw or start heading for cover and your wright they will not go out the loft if they can see the bop
