Tossed 67 youngsters from around 15 miles at 7 pm tonight. Got 1 at 9.30pm then another at 9.40pm then 9 dropped together at 10.20pm.  :( :( which  leaves 56 awol :'(

The ones that are back seem totally unfazed by it all :-/

Sick as a parrott, just hope some work back tomorrow. Year in year out we put our youngbirds through the hoops and then seem to get slapped.

This team was the healthiest we've had yet, only had to dispose of 2 that went back. Not one lost off the loft and they are flying and ranging well, so what goes wrong? It can't all be B.O.P. surely :-/

Should never toss so late in day . this is a typical example why i.e. something goes wrong they don't have much of a chance on the day  ;)to work back. Good Luck anyway mate, hopefully you get them in morning

tossed them quite late and if they went of for a wander  as they do they could easily have run out of daylight,  also had that before tossing at that time of night, they usually turn up next morning as they dont get the daylight to get to far away.

We  always toss them in the evenings as this is the only time we can do it due to work commitments and by the time we basket them all up it's usually about 6 - 6.30pm before we head off with them, no other option :-/ but I know it is a risk but on the other hand, as stb says they are restricted from going to far away because of lack of daylight hours.

reading the replies about fanciers having similar tosses and getting most back the next day has cheered me up so thanks for that guys, I'll put the rope back in the garage for now ;D ;)

And one splits them into half, thirds or quarters. Some crash, last lot home first, second lot dribble back a few days later... etc. So in theory if all went last they'd be home, safe and sound and as snug as bugs in the loft.

That's pigeons I guess. etc. etc

dont like late training sessions prefer to take them in the morning that way they can work their way back in daytime

Work commitments mean exercise mornings and train evenings and weekends for me too, for the past 2/3 years. YBs only go 20 miles, so up @ 7pm is plenty of time for them to get home .

Do seem slower getting a line for home this year though, and last week had bad experience from same location as Aye Ready with birds home over 3 hour period, and one missing.

Quite concerned at the number of reports from fanciers on here and in my local area, experiencing big losses in young bird training :-/ I am a little behind this year, and will only begin tossing my youngsters from Saturday, so a little apprehensive to say the least. Hope you get more back 2day m8 ;)

i hope you get them back.

i seem to be having problems after problems. 1st ever toss 5 miles they came chased by a pair of peregrines. changed places and libs at different times, first toss at 13 miles lib in batches 6 am. 3rd bacth came after 30 mins. after 5 hours 2 from the 1st. at night fall i had 9 luckily all but 3 worked back over the next few  days. 3 with chest injuries. 1 from a hawk the other 2 looked like injuries from taking avoiding action. gave them nearly 3 weeks off from the basket. tried again this week, let 5 go at 10 miles before they had even grouped a peregrine went throught them, singled 1 off and then another from below attacked hitting the bird. 3 came back ok 1 returned the next day with a big rip in her neck the other still missing. So really im either really unlucky or there are more than the rspbs claim of thier being 1 pair of peregrines in cornwall.

not bad for my first year back.

im sure they are not the only reason ,but it does seem to happening quite alot on here about people lossing big numbers of youngbirds, some seem to be quite lucky that they get most back in the next few days
