Remember being so gutted got up next morning and had all five sitting on the loft waiting to go in and this was 5 in the morning . Luckerly the team went on and done very well for in me in the rest of the racers over the water just dont know what happened to them in that race

Guest lenwadebob Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Remember back in 1966 when I raced with a mate of mine (we were both teenagers) We had a pair of Blood Reds that we were gifted by an old member of the club, and one or other would always be missing for 24 hours. We would let the cock out one day, he would go missing and the hen would be there, next day the opposite, this went on for weeks, and we could never work out WHY. The week prior to the LNRC we sent the hen racing as she was the one in the loft at the time, she was 1st club, 1st Fed from Selby. The following week was Morpeth combine and Thursday night marking. It was one of those rare occasions when both birds were in the loft at the same time, so they both went. Come the day of the race, there we were waiting for the birds in my mates mum's kitchen as it was tipping it down with rain, so we didn't hold much hope. Then the Red Hen dropped on the loft, so we ran out and clocked her. We were stood there for over 20 minutes, soaked, waiting for our other birds, so I decided to stand in my mates Dads old garden shed near the loft, that had seen better days, leaking roof and windows missing. As I opened the door, I couldn't believe what I saw, there on a shelf, at the back of the shed sat the Red Cock in a biscuit tin full of rusty nails, with 2 big young'uns. We never bothered to clock him. The hen finished 1st club, 9th Open Combine. How long the Cock had been there, and how we missed him arriving, and would he have won the Combine, we will never know, but it solved the mystery of why one or other of them were missing for 24 hours at a time.
T_T Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 So many upsets which we all seem/have to bounce back from. Most recent one, just this OB season, sent 5 pigeons with 7 firsts between them to Tours 266mls. To this day, never seen a pigeon, rest of club 100% returns. Difficult to explain as to why.
DUBLINFLYER Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 sent to the 1st barleycove open in the old birds this year, wot a disaster it was we dropped 14 birds 6 of which were winners, sick!!!! that race effectively ended our old birds season as it hurt the remaining birds in the team
billt Posted October 23, 2009 Author Report Posted October 23, 2009 Why do we put ourselves through this torture, can't think of any other hobby/sport that has so many disasters, roll on next year ;D

swilcox Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Tarbes NFC race, the good thing is i made 2 mistakes and after alot of thought i have a clear plan to put them right so hopefully 2010 will be a better experience. Stuart
greenlands Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Appart from being disapponted , I was bloody disgusted and very angry. The Nantes Centenary race, had a great season scored well nearly every race and picked out two of my best candidates for this race .They couldn't stand still .Liberated with no chance of getting home (IMO).Television cameras etc .etc.Didn't clock in race time infact in our club the race was not won.On the day after the race closed I went to open the loft (not a happy chappie) and a small dark figure was laying on the loft step.I went to pick her up and she just fell over,I wasn't seriously mad till then.Reports of fishermen netting dead birds on the channel etc.She recovered but was never the same pigeon again. Lindsay Her mate never made it.
