blaz Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 well can you not add natural in as well if so natural gets my vote
Tony C Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 Against roundabout. Most that I know that race the roundabout system seem to get their cocks coming one year another year their hens but very rarely they get them both to hit form in the same year. For roundabout. You get to test your hens. Against widowhood. Cocks need the sun on their backs. For widowhood. The simplicity of the system, less time consuming.
Guest devonred Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 Always raced natural, but giving roundabout a bash next season
blackdog Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 hi tony, been flying roundabout the last 5 years and 9 times out of 10 its been hens that come, dont know why but cocks dont seem to shine much, maybe just my system, so for next season i will only be flying hens and leave the cocks at home so there always there for the hens return
DAVIDL Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 think widowhood cocks is the easiest system, roundabout is more time consuming for a start......but with roundabout you dont get to waste possibly good hens by not racing them.
aye ready Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 roundabout for me train the cocks and work the hens round the loft
bombersbullets Posted October 19, 2009 Author Report Posted October 19, 2009 thanks every one for replying plz keep um coming cheers
robbiedoo. Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 roundabout for me i havent looked back since started racing this system . i,m the same as blackdog my hens knock the spots of the cocks . last year old birds started with 40 lost 17 cocks and just 5 hens out of 16 races . :o
marmite Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 raced natural for yrs in the sprints always 5 mins behind winners but over the water they come into their own on a hard day. but found roundabout good for both short or long cocks came very well on sprints hens very good over the distance
wilkins Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 roundabout for me train the cocks and work the hens round the loft my hens in the winter try to drop on the trap where the sputnicks are and the cocks and box's are, my worry is if they do this during the season instead of flying it would be my first year on this system next year any advice?
biglad Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 roundabout! widowhood wastes good hens, on average hens beat the cocks don't think system suits cocks as much as hens
Guest ROCKYandRAMBO Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 widowhood for me . easyer to motivate the cocks and havent got time or room for the hens
aye ready Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 my hens in the winter try to drop on the trap where the sputnicks are and the cocks and box's are, my worry is if they do this during the season instead of flying it would be my first year on this system next year any advice? there's other posts i've written on how i do the roundabout where they'll be god knows maybe one of the mods could point you in the right direction (ok)
Guest Owen Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 I would like to fly widowhood for the adult cocks. Widowhood for the adult hens. Natural for the yearlings, both sexes. My problem is that I have to go to the house sometimes. And although I would like to stay at home all day, I have to work. So I will stick to my widowhood cocks. Besides, there is only one 1st prize to be won in the races I enter.
wilkins Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 owen would you race hens to un raced cocks
wilkins Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 there's other posts i've written on how i do the roundabout where they'll be god knows maybe one of the mods could point you in the right direction (ok) hope so , cant find them on the search thanks
Guest Owen Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 wilkins I have thought about it a couple of times but I have not done anything seriously about it. It took me a lot of effort and a lot of mistakes to learn to fly widowhood properly. And this year I decided to experiment with the system. The result was that I came unstuck, big time. It then took a couple of weeks to get them back onto my system before they started to fly properly again. That meant that I had wasted half the season on my flight of fancy. Stupid or what? Some have said that I waste my hens. Not true. The hens are sent every week as youngsters and because I have plenty at the end of each year, I only keep the best. Year by year the hen team is getting better. Besides that, I have learned that good widowhood hens are vital to get the cocks to really try. I would not risk loosing the best hens because it would cost dearly in the lost form of the cocks. Another benefit I have, is the fact that I have reached the stage where all the youngsters are out of winning parents. The cocks have to win at least four times to qualify to breed and the hens have to have done something to be allowed to rear youngsters. My birds are certainly not World Beaters but they are very reliable and are getting better as time goes by. And it is worth a lot to me, the fact that I know them so well. So I have decided to stay with pure widowhood, for the forseeable future. No more messing about for me, I will trust my lads to do the job as they can and will do.
jimmy white Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 the question w/hood or roundabout?,, my opinion w/hood,,
jimbhoy29 Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 is there a wesite that has a day to day plan on how to fly the 2 systems
showman Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 Have read this very interesting thread, where members are putting forward their opinions.....but not much talked about the distances to be flown. Not wishing to hi-jack this thread, but would the widowhood & roundabout systems still be good for distance pigeons, that may face a holdover ?
