Distance also depends on climate and weather young birds in the UK could be faced with 40 mph head winds, fog and rain.

A ford is a ford no matter what plates are on it.

I don't think it should matter if you have stock lofts in your back garden or the other side of the world. If a fancier has stock birds in uk and they are still in his name then I see no problem with the young birds having his rings on them. At the end of the day you buy the bird and its pedigree not its ring. I can ring my birds with GB or IHU rings. If the person is in partnership with a dutch fancier then I cannot see how you can stop him putting dutch rings on. If he it breeding the dutch fanciers stock bird here in uk and the dutch fancier wants his own rings on them how can you stop him. They could be for sale or go back to Holland to race who knows.

How much should I feed my birds
pigeonscout replied to Iqbal's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
Feed them a bit at a time until they start to leave the barley then stop. A big bird needs more than a wee bird and a bird that is flying needs more than one sitting in the loft. When they starts to leave the seeds they dont like they have had enough. -
Just put a pice of clean 1/4 ply on box floor
-
Mike Ganus USA got 11 young birds on a drop from 500 mile that is some flying.
-
I have a couple 250 mile + 2 x 200 and a 300 channel. and i would not be one of the longer flyers there are guys fly 50 mile more than me.

Race 9 to 12 old birds and 35 has been my biggest young bird team.

My invoice for T3
-
Yes they where doing a offer last year I missed it and had to pay £85. I think there will be a lot of cheap clocks about when ETS takes off. I sent my spare T3 to a pigeonbasics member getting back into the sport this week.

Here is something I found online and it is saying what I said earlier about feather quality and baytril Medication Many of the common drugs used during this time, including, as mentioned earlier, some of the wormers, affect feather quality. Antibiotics (particularly Baytril and Sulpha AVS, and to a lesser extent doxycycline, Resfite and Doxy-T) if used during this time not only interfere with the development of natural immunity by interrupting the on-going exposure to organisms but also compromise feather quality and so their use is best avoided. They compromise feather quality by killing many of the beneficial bacteria in the bowel. These are necessary for digestion and the assimilation of nutrients. Their disruption by antibiotics interrupts the on-going delivery of nutrients to the growing feather within the feather follicle. Turbosole and other anticanker drugs do not disrupt the bowel bacteria and so can be safely used.

Vic you say a vet usually prescribes enough baytril for flock treatment, so where does one go from there? Probably because most of the birds will have come into contact with it. Vic im not against the use of baytril im against the way it is being use. You also say you believe that pigeons can look quite well, but can still have something within them. Yes, I agree with that but if you think along those lines then you would have baytril in the water 7 days a week 52 weeks a year. The other way to look at it Vic is if you give Baytril and they don't have a sickness then you are hurting the birds immune system for nothing. People forget that a bird has it own immune system to tackle sickness and cure itself. It is only in severe cases the use of antibiotics like baytril should be used. What would you think of your doctor if he prescribe you antibiotics if you where showing no signs of illness?

You can take one young from each nest at 14 days and put them onto the floor of a section with the hens (lots of straw) leaving cocks with other young bird until all the young are feeding themselves. That will let you put your old birds back together all at the same time and hopefully they will all come down on 2nd round at same time. I only use this system for the 2nd round so that the hens don't lay 3rd round before 2nd round is weaned as I only want two rounds.

Ronnie you are right it what you say they do not become bad old birds they just lost the advantage of racing with a full wing against birds that or heavy in moult.

What im saying is you do not need big teams to win young or old bird racing.
-
Marcel Albrecht who in 2005, was the all around champion of Belgium. This year he won it again with an even stronger race record. Think of it, he’s almost 80 years old and races from a tiny old loft with 18 race birds, including yearlings. So even if he lost half his old birds every year he would only need 9 young birds to top up his race team.

Got mine done last year service + battery £72.60 + £12.70 vat total £85.30

Vic can I sak if you ever had birds in super condition before you started giving baytril? if so why do you think it is the baytrill that makes the super condition now? Baytril is for use on sick birds it wont stop them from getting sick.
-
When a new bacteria is found there is an antibiotic made to kill it. Baytril is a broad spectrum antibiotic which Im told contains 2000 different antibiotics. That means that only one antibiotic goes to work on the bacteria your bird has and the other 1999 go to work on the birds immune system. You say you are going to give your young birds 14 days of baytril before they get the paramyxo jab why would you treat birds with baytril if they are not sick? The makers of paramyxo jab do not say that this is required. I think it is just another one of them stories started by the guys that are selling Baytril. The paramyxo jab was around long before the use of Baytril on pigeons and it worked just as well then as it does now. The system of treating with baytrill before the jab was use for the paratyphoid jab not the paramyxo and is use in a lot of the one loft races.
