  1. It is hard to tell with droppings when feeding young birds I think Bruno gives a good answer. If they are not wet leave well alone. Change the feed to one that has lots of peas and no maze. How are the dropping from the young birds around the nest?
  2. Or you can take the eggs away as soon as 2nd egg is layed and keep in cool place for up to 7 days then put under birds that have just had 2nd egg.
  3. If a bird has not been in the first 3 more than 3 times or bred me a winner by the time it is two yes I bin it. It will have had a young bird season and two old bird season 30 races and it will have been paired to 4 different hens so in my book I have give it every chance. 2nd I have birds but no 3 year olds that have not won or bred me a winner. A top uk fancier once said if you have not got a yearling that can beat a 3 year old your in trouble.
  4. Thats wht I want to know why IHU?
  5. AS I have said before I have never use the light system so cannot say what one is best dark or light but it seems all the top young bird flyers in the world use the dark system so that's why I use the dark system.
  6. Lots of flyers work 9 to 5 and still use the dark put a timer light to come on at 12am then when you come home from work at 5pm you have 3 hours until 8pm to fly and feed them. Dark from end of march to 2nd week in may some get away with only 9 weeks dark I like 12 weeks.
  7. I have talk to guys that have put teams on both dark and light in the same year and they say the dark are bigger and stronger. They tell me the light ones never rest and young birds need to rest. I have never tried the light so I can not say which is best.
  8. Why IHU and do you want IHU s or IHU n?
  9. When young birds are on 24 hour light when do they rest?
  10. My first feed is 100% peas and 2nd feed breeding mix if you feed in pots in the boxes then you don't have to do this. I do not have a heated loft so I like to give other seeds so they can maintain a good body heat. If you just put down a breeding mix some birds will not take the peas and pump the young with small seeds. So by feeding 100% peas for first feed I know the young birds are getting them.
  11. Paul pick yourself up a garden shed door in middle at front so you can have section to left and right of door + you will have a 2ft6 corridor from door to back of loft that will give you room for corn bin.
  12. If a dog chases live stock the owner of the live stock has the right to shoot it
  13. If your at the bottom of the result sheet then work harder. Telling someone they can only take the first 3 in the result is like telling a striker he can only score one goal or a dart player he can only hit one 180. Why would anyone want their name on a false result sheet? The fancier does not fly the race the bird does and if a bird is 4th why should it not be 4th why should someone else's bird get 4th when it was not? People say it is to help the new comer but it is not the new comer that is complaining. What other sport is there where the top men have to give away position so the new comer can get a result? If you can not get on the sheet get new birds and work harder.
  14. Why would anyone need to race 50 old birds? look at your results do any more than 10 finish in the top 3 places regular? if not why are you feeding them? Why do you have so many stock birds? if a pair of birds are not breeding you winners why are they in your stock loft? I do not care how much it cost or what sort of pedigree it has if it does not breed winners I bin it. Racers must win and stock must breed them.
  15. You will get better results with 10 good young birds than you will with 200 bad ones. If you cannot finish a season with 20 young birds you do not need to breed more young birds you need to bin your stock birds.
  16. Could be the eggs got cold because the birds where chased of the nest by vermin or a cock bird that wants more than one box.
  17. You do not need to prove anything your club broke the rules.
  18. Does he have a garage if so move the birds into that? Under EU law racing Pigeons are classed as household pets so if he is allowed to keep dogs under the EU law he can keep pigeons. If people in the area he lives keep dogs cats budgies parrots fish and they wont let him keep pigeons then that is discrimination.

  20. I think clubs should make a team of their best 5 fanciers and the clubs race one another like pool teams dart teams football teams, etc., That way the good flyers in each club would get credit for winning from their club mates instead of what we see to often back stabbing.
  21. 100 birds for a one loft race? Lets say the loft manager gets paid just £50 per day for 7 months that = £10,500 then you can add food, vets, training, race, adds, loft, etc. You would not have much change out off £15,000 but im sure it would be a lot more than that. So just to cover the cost would work out at £150 per bird and no prize money. I think I would rather enter a one loft race with 1500 birds for less money and a chance to win £100,000 + in prize money.
  22. Good bacteria is always fighting for its place against bad bacteria so the more good bacteria the less room for bad bacteria. Vinegar kills only bad bacteria and does not harm good bacteria so if you kill the bad then you leave more room for the good to multiply.
  23. I would take jimmy white, s advice and get them tested. If it is a virus then it will have to run its course as there is no cure for viruses just prevention. All you can do when they get a viruses is try to stop secondary diseases getting hold.
  24. http://www.pipa.be/artikels/pi-account/paratyphoid.htm
  25. We all know that paratyphoid is associated with mice. The name of the Salmonella species that causes paratyphoid in pigeons, typhimurium, means mouse typhoid. Contaminated grain can be the direct cause (mice urine on the feed)
