    Are your sure your local shopping centre isn't running a one loft race?
  2. I never put vinegar into the water I just put it on the feed that way it is into the birds in 5 mins and not sitting in the drinker 24 hours. Also if your young birds are throwing feed them a light feed that has been soaked in vinegar then dried you will have no more problems. My method of putting vinegar on the feed to stop young birds throwing was then fine tuned by one of the top fanciers in the uk.   4. What would you call the distance bird? the bird that can fly 500 mile with a 40mph tail wind or the bird that can fly 250 mile into a 40mph head wind?
  5. Think you miss my point, The distance a bird fly's in any given time depends on the wind. If a man sends 10 birds to a 500 mile races and they fly home with the help of a tail wind he can say he has 10 distance birds, If he sends the same ten birds to a 500 mile race with a strong head wind and only one comes home did he only have 1 distance bird.
  6. If you get a partner that lives 50 miles from you, who will come up every morning hamper the birds clean the loft take the birds the 50 miles back home with him and let them off and all you have to do is sit in you garden drinking a bud waiting on them coming home then go for it take him on.
  7. Rose what I was trying to say was it all depends on the weather you could get a bird from 500 with a nice tail wind but the same bird would not make it in a 250 with strong head wind. Most birds can fly 8 hours even young birds so depending on how fast the race is well decide how much ground they cover. if a bird can fly at 50mph in a still wind it will cover 400 miles in 8 hours. if a tail wind is pushing it 30mph faster it will be doing 80mph and cover 640 miles in 8 hours but if it has a head wind slowing it down by 30mph it will be doing 20mph and cover only 160 miles in 8 hours. So depending on the wind it can be a 640 winner or a 160 winner so what do we call it a sprinter or distance bird?

  10. If I was doing a loft report on a successful loft and it was his first. I would ask to see all his top breeding pairs. Then I would ask how much he wanted for them and buy them. Then I would do a great report on his loft and wins. One that would make people want his birds and guess who would have the best of them? Just kidding

All products sold in the UK must by law have the ingredients printed on the label there was a man here thought he could sale a magic potion for pigeons and keep the ingredients a trade secret until a fanciers child drank it. When the child was taking to hospital the manufacture had to reveal the ingredients of the bottle which turned out to be vinegar mixed with green food colour. He was reported for not having ingredients printed on the label and fined £15,000 + costs. There is nothing on the market that will kill a virus once the bird has caught it all you can do is support the bird until it builds up an immune system against it or you can vaccinate before it gets it. There are 3 thing we treat for in pigeons. 1 parasites the products use to kill parasites i.e. coccidiosis canker lice worms ticks, etc. are not antibiotics so do not affect the birds immune system. 2 bacterial infections for this we use antibiotics and this can have an effect on the birds immune system. 3 viruses the only cure for them is to prevent by vacation. We here in the UK put YBS all under the one umbrella, the young birds in your loft could suffer from a virus and in my loft a bacterial infection the cure for yours is support and the cure for mine is antibiotics. So I do not think it is wise to say a cure for one loft will be a cure for another.
  12. Northern Ireland fanciers still fly 500+ and that is across two channels and there is a lot of fanciers race and win the short races and still race the 500s with the same birds. I think it is all about setting them up for it. The young birds go to penzance and that is 300 + across the channel.
  13. I dont think you could break the kind of birds that will race from 570 miles.

Uk one loft races send them 300 + we fly 4+ 250 and 250 can be hard on them when the wind is on their nose it all depends on the weather not so much the distances usa send young birds 500 and Taiwan 700. I would never send a bird to a race to lost it if I don't think the condition is right I wont send. Any young bird should be good for 8 hours on the wing.
  15. Two guys from usa done a survey on why the peregrines stick to same colour birds and the results where simple. If one attacks a pied and is successful it will keep going for pied until unsuccessful if a red is its first kill then it will keep going for the reds and so on. It will always attack the same colour bird as its last meal. these two guys where not pigeon men but owned peregrines they let of a red for the bird to kill two days later they let go 10 birds all blue only one red all at same time the peregrine only attacked the red. then two days later they give it a blue to kill two days after that they let one blue and 9 reds up the peregrine only attacked the blue.
  16. shadow trouble maker do you mean bad looser? If you cant race in club keep you best 2 pairs and send to the one loft races they are great you get a mini race every day as they train.

  18. gangster I have tried for 2 years now to house train my birds but no luck. we can get them to fly from france but can not get them to go outside for a dump? we must be doing something wrong.

If you send 10 birds to a race you will only be racing against the people that sent a max. of 10 if you send 20 you will be racing against the people that sent 20 max. and so on, so we can have 10 winners all winning against people in the 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 90 100 bird classes. So instead of having club winners we will have class winners. PS don't take what im saying serious im just having a laugh.

In ten years time we will be sitting on our computers watching the race unfold tracking devices on or birds picked up on satellite and sent to our screens. robots cleaning our lofts and feeding the birds, auto doors to let them out, birds will be picked up at your door and took to the race no more going to the club for result as they will be up loaded by the ETS. No more rings, a chip will be implanted that can be scanned and if your bird does not come home just log on to your computer and trace its chip by satellite. All young birds will be DNA tested to be 100% sure of its breeding. All birds will need to be registered with a pedigree and like dogs.
  22. Ronnie I think there could be some truth in what you say you only have to look how the sport is growing in the poor countries. But they way things are going with the kids nowadays it will be the fancier that will be drug tested not the birds.
  23. I know of a man who put the bait on tips as they fly high for hours which make them a great target for peregrines.

    Limits

    You are racing against thousands of pigeons what does it matter if a guy in your club sends 100 of them only one bird can win. It is a lot easier to look after 12 cocks and get them in top form than it is to try it with 100 birds. Numbers do not win races speed wins races. What is the difference between one man sending 100 birds and 5 men sending 20 each you still have to beat 100 birds so why does it matter who sent them?
