1. Take your birds grit and mins out on Weds.
2. I have never heard of a club sec here in Ireland getting paid
3. I agree sub zero temperatures kills a lot of problems that could be in the loft. If I could aford it I would have under floor heating not to heat the loft but to dry any damp at this time of year. Turn it on for 30 mins each damp morning just to dry the floor.
4. 2 gr per 1 litre of water or with 3/4 kg of food for 2-6 days. On the food I think is better at this time of the year as they are not drinking much.

breeding

I done a search for you and came up with this. Question:
My hens are put together with the cocks. They layed on day 12. 9 of them only layed one egg. I don't know if I should be worried I have a disease problem or something is going on with them. They are all very active and the stoul are normal?
Name of the veterenarian: Dr Ruben Lanckriet Dear Sir,This is indeed not normal. Allthough there is no indication for disease as the birds are active and have good droppings, I would nevertheless advise to let your birds be examined by your vet and take samples for the most common diseases. In case of egg laying problems especially paratyphus, streptococcus and E. coli could be a problem. But in any case a general clinical exam could bring some clarity. Also make sure the birds get enough minerals (calcium) and protein.Kind regards Ruben Lanckriet 30/12/2009
6. I agree 100% finding winning pigeons is easy finding the breeders of them is the hard part.
7. A successful stock bird needs to breed winners not win races the only way to find that out is in the nest bowl not the race basket.
8. As much chance of breeding a winner as a national winner
9. How many of Mark Evans original draft of Gabys proved themselves in the race basket? They went on to breed 100s of winners. As I have said when it comes to breeding the parents results mean nothing.
10. I know Mike and have done for a long time he is the man that showed me how to win. Mike has the biggest collection of ace birds in the world yet he still finds himself buying top birds from the back garden fancier. There is nothing I could say about that man that is naitave as I think he is one of the all time greats.
11. Who owns theses birds and how many of them do they have in their stock loft. Who is wining with the young.
12. If you do not have nest boxes you could put in some crisp boxes the ones with the hole in the side.
13. That is good advice and one I will put in my wee book.
14. Cant be to many stock lofts where you come from
15. I agree with you as theses men have stock birds that are breeding winners.
16. The results of a stock bird mean nothing to me the results of its offspring mean everything. Owen I know where you are comming from and agree that the winning blood must be in the family but the bird itself does not need to be a winning bird to breed winning birds. I think you are taking a bigger chance by putting a bird in the bin you have not bred of just because it was not a winner. My birds only go to the stock loft when they have bred winners and not because they have won x amount of races. If they breed me a winner as yearlings they will not race again. There is no point putting a winning bird in the stock loft if it is not breeding winners. I had guy a my loft asking for young birds out of a cock that won 6 races I told him he would be better off with young birds from another cock who is breeding winners but who has never won a race. He look at me like I had two heads and said no I want them out of the winner.
17. If winners bred winners then we would all be buying or birds from the big studs as they buy a lot of the top winning birds. And who do they buy their top winning birds of the back garden fancier. The reason for this is they find it hard to breed their own with all their top winning stock birds.
18. You can not tell how good the offspring are going to be until you have bred from them I have stock birds in my loft that bred winners every single year that never raced well and I have birds that have won 6 races and never bred a young bird to make it to the first race.just because a bird wins races does not mean it will bred winners and just because a bird was no good at racing does not mean it will not breed winners.
19. Winners do not always bred winners I wish it was that easy much better chance of buying winners from proven stock pairs and some of them have never been in a race basket. There has been more national winners bred from birds that never won a race than from national winners themselves. A guy who is breeding winners year in year out has in my view proven stock birds and is the man to buy from.
