  1. Agree, as only good management can make a great bird.
  2. Baytril has been shown to get rid of the carrier state of salmonella so you no longer must destroy infected birds.
  3. what program is telling you the virus is found
  4. Flax seed = linseed
  5. linseed
  6. Fly them round the house to let of some steam then basket them up for the training toss. A lot of fanciers train their birds to home but you need to teach them to race home not just fly home. When birds are put into the basket always have something in the loft they will race home to. Once the penny drops that basket means something nice in the loft they will race home. To stop your birds going onto the house roof get a balloon and tie bit of string to it and at the other end a weight of some kind and put it up on the roof the balloon will blow about the roof keeping them off. My mate has rigged a pulley so he can pull the balloon up and down as you would a flag. I use the garden hose as I live in a single story. Once they learn as young birds the only safe place to land is the landing board or in the loft it stays with them the rest of their life. As soon as the birds touch down call them in the is something not right with birds that do not want to fly. I found that if the young birds are sticky and not wanting to fly put them on 75% barley and 25% flax seed for 2 weeks after 7 to 10 days on this they will fly for hours.
  7. Agree with this as a bird infront cannot be dragged and most winning birds are at the front.
  8. Very good advice 100%
  9. I race a small team as you know but to have limit is silly as the more birds that are sent the more money it brings into the sport. It works out cheaper to send a full lorry than it does to send one half full. I race with guys that send 100+ and it makes no difference as numbers dont win speed wins. Glado each member can only send 50 birds but each member still has to beat the hundereds of birds in the club. The best flyer you have down there is Gerry and he has been for years. The last time I was at his place he was racing a small team. If a guy wants to send 100 birds let them it will not make the fastest bird slower or the slowest bird faster.
  10. I got them in 2002/2001 used them for 2 years they do not heat the air they only heat man and beast I got mine from joop kochs. As it was his mate who worked in the factory the made them. I found they brought the birds into form to soon in the season I also found that you have to have them placed just right in the loft as the birds will leave their boxes to sit on floor in front of it. If used right they will make a difference but when I had them they were new to the sport and none of use knew the best way to use them.
  11. I agree with what you are saying and back then everyone was in the same boat. Things have moved on but it seems that only some fanciers now know that to get the best from a bird you have to cure it of anything that will hinder its performance Canker Worms Respiratory etc.
  12. I cannot understand why some fanciers would not treat a sick bird. What reason would you have not to give a bird or a member of your own family an antibiotic to help them get better or save their life. Are all you fanciers who would not give medication to a sick bird never taken medication yourself? Do you think that Olympic gold medal winners have never taken antibiotics or supplemented their diet with vitamins and minerals? Where does it say that a 5 to 10 day course of antibiotics to cure an illness damages the immune system long term?
  13. So are you saying your own birds did not have a good immune system are or you saying what I am saying that birds can not be immune to everything and if they come into contact with a bird that is carrying something they are not immune to they can get sick
  14. Prolong use or miss use of antibiotics will damage the birds but I think treating a bird that is sick with the right antibiotic will do it more good than harm.
  15. They can also save a good birds life
  16. There is no such a thing as a pigeon that has an immune system that will protect it from all virus / bacteria.
  17. Do you believe that you can have a team of birds with a natural immunity so good that will prevent them from getting sick?
  18. If you were told the phone worked and it does not then you were miss sold. You need to put your complaint in writing. Then you can decide if you need to put it in the hands of a solicitor or not depending on their response.
  19. Could you explain the reason for this.
  20. A bird without canker will fly beter than the same bird with canker. This can also be said of a bird if it had respiratory, worms, para, mineral, vitamin deficiency ect ect. So products /Meds do have a role to play, the trick is knowing when and how to use them.
  21. Tylan, Amoxicillin, Baycox, Moxidectin, Ronidazol 10%, Cytacon, Wheat Germ oil, Grit, Mins, Pick stone, vinegar, Good food, scraper and Blowtorch.
  22. If you think McGarry can talk you want to spend an hour with me ha ha. The first thing ganster ask for when he comes to my place is an aspirin for the headache he is about to have. Anto fred micko and ganster would all agree that when you visit my lofts you need ear plugs. If there was a championship for talking I would be up there with the best of them
  23. mcgarry is a good lad he like to have a bit of fun on stage
  24. Yes I have also been told this and if true then we should not be looking at this as a cause of old birds getting sick.
  25. I was told that Hexamitiasis is only a problem in young birds.
