I was stood a the back garden watching for the Fife birds home in St. Andrews on Sunday morning. Broken cloud and sunshine. The wind was strong enough though.

If you (everyone) think a member is being a protagonist the very worst you can do is have a pop back. Ignore they'll get bored and you won't bring yourself down to their level. I am thoroughly sick of reading these snipes, counter snipes, counter counter snipes across so many topics. Stop, or it'll be stopped. Easy

I trust that these petty snipes are going to stop. Want this topic locked?

A large number of posts are being posted to the Notice Board, and this is a major problem. A comprehensive range of boards has been setup so that the forum stays organised and topics can be found easily and quickly, however if everything is posted to the one board, that is completely out of the window. Recently active topics can be accessed using the Portal, Recent Posts, Unread Topics/Posts or the Unread since last visit page. This alongside the notifications functionality I feel is more than ample to keep track of interesting and new posts - these take posts irrespective of the board that they are posted in. It is my intention to step-up the re-categorisation work to try and dig out the congested Notice Board and revive it back to the purpose it was setup - for notices, events and major or newsworthy topics.

On the internet you are who you say you are. There is very little you can do to verify identity. Rather than making it a requirement to give details (we'll get lots of Mickey Mouses); I think it should be a reward and incentive to input your real details. Whilst a little way off, a solution to bring this type of system is in the pipeline for Pigeonbasics. In the meantime, report bad stuff, and we'll try and get it off ASAP. -
Calling time on this one. If there are any queries contact the original poster by PM.

Its a reoccurring problem so I thought I'd post up a short piece to help. You've signed up but can't post This is probably due to your membership not having been validated. When you signed up you should have received an email with a link to click on - this is the validation process. Sometimes this email gets swallowed up by an over eager spam filter. So check your Junk mail folder, or Spam folder on your email account. If you can't find the email, or think you typed your email address incorrectly, just send me an email at [mail]forum@pigeonbasics.com[/mail] and I'll manually validate your account, and amend your email address if needs be. You've forgotten your username/password First thing first, if you can't remember your username (or not sure you've got it right) you can enter the email address you signed up with in the username box, and providing you've got your password right you'll be signed in as normal. If you've forgotten your password, if you click the Forgotten Password link by the login box you will be asked to fill in your email address. Make sure its the same email address that is associated with your account. You will then receive an email that contains a special link that will enable you to reset your password. Once again, if you don't get this email, check your Junk or Spam folders, and if you still have problems email me at [mail]forum@pigeonbasics.com[/mail]. Whatever the circumstance don't try and sign up again. This only causes more confusion, as you will have to have a completely new email address, and the crossover of usernames and passwords causes problems later down the line. Anyhow, having multiple member accounts (without a pre-approved valid reason) is against our rules.

Just read through my post again, it's a bit of a jumble. If I've missed anything or anything needs clarifying; post a reply -
selling birds on this site

Lots of confusion, let's see if I can help out Pigeonbasics was setup to be of benefit to fanciers, this is the reason we do not charge for any of the services [present services; club/federation mini-site, liberation weather, member or seller on this forum] even though some of these have had major investments in time and money. Birds for sale was setup because it was (and is) of interest to a great number of visitors - I didn't see any reason to charge for it, because as I said it was of benefit to the fancy and new visitors. Selling birds on here; we request a voluntary donation on the receipt of a successful sale, but there is no requirement. I feel that if we've helped you out, you should help us out, be that a donation or something else. Paying for Sales. It is an issue of fairness, not we necessarily need the money (see below). If someone sells a couple of latebreds, and donates say £20; and someone comes along and sells the same but does not donate; it is unfair on the person who did donate -'Why should I donate if x didn't?', and it is unfair on the site. Money and Pigeonbasics. I note that various comments of 'my forum costs £x to run, it must be about making money'. Firstly its not about making money, its about fairness as noted above, and lets be honest if you sold a pigeon, should you not share a percentage of that with the person or site that helped you sell it? Secondly costs. Pigeonbasics developed from free hosting, to something like £8 per month hosting, however due to the popularity and number of visitors to the site and forum, we now rent our own dedicated web server. This is now a requirement due to the scale of the demand (does anyone remember the 'CGI Full' error a few years back?!). Therefore it is unfair to compare the costings of Pigeonbasics with some other websites. That being said I no longer pay for Pigeonbasics out of my own pocket (I am not in a position to do so), it must at least cover itself. And that said I don't take any money from Pigeonbasics to cover any of the time that is invested in developing and maintaining it (disregarding the Shop, where I would like to take something from the work that goes in, however do not at present). ----- Back to the issue of selling birds. I have noted the disparity between donations and successful sales, and some form of opt-in eligibility to post items for sale has been thought through, and may form part of the pending review of the forum rules and guidelines. I would like to hear opinions on the method of regulating sellers, and collection of donations. -
To be honest the trophy had slipped my attention, thats 100% my fault. The last I have/heard was that it was being sent back to Jimmy.

My mistake, needed to remove a couple of posts posted this morning and must have moved it into the Moderator section by mistake. I've moved it back just now :-/ The 'new site' topic was merged with the 'My Website' topic on the 'Introductions & Member Messages' board. -

When I updated the site, during a backup some of the older attached images were lost (that why some of the avatars went missing too). I've search all my previous backups and restored the images that were there. Sorry :-/

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7494988.stm If using Internet Explorer, make sure to run 'Windows Update' regularly to keep the security holes in the software patched. Best thing, download and install FireFox - it's free, works like a charm and security updates are alerted to you when they become available for a one-click installation. (If you use the download link on the right - under the adverts - Pigeonbasics will receive a few pennies too )

welsh south east national post removed why?
Webmaster replied to a topic in Website News, Views & Computer Related Info
Dont worry it was just moved to a different board (the 'Race Day' board), but it's back now Whilst the big races are running, nationals, etc we'll put them in the Notice Board, but normal service will resume once clocking etc has finished and they'll go with the rest of the race topics under 'Race Day'. -
