  1. We will give a helping hand to anyone who asks, as no doubt the majority of the forum membership would do the same. PM'ing - honestly I cant think of many safer ways
  2. You're right; to sell something a seller has to give out details, but what details and how they do that is up to them. We're not going to hold people's hands in the selling or buying process, but we are an extra security for the buyer when all else fails. Once more we are able to vet the sellers on here, and if something does go wrong stop them from using the for sale section again. Regarding access to the details. I dont have time to reliably run the approval process, therefore by far the next best thing is for Gemma to do it for me. I have complete knowledge physically where the computer is, and how the security software is setup on it. If a seller isn't happy giving us their details, they must be unhappy about any 'buyer' getting their details, and therefore wouldn't want to be a seller anyway :-/
  3. There are ways and means, but we won't be making it any easier. The details will only be given out when all other communication has failed, and then only to the single member involved.

  5. You're right a seller should disclose enough information for the item to sell, but once a buyer has been found, address, cheque details can be shared. There is no business of anyone else to have access of the information unless the seller wishes so. Example; an advert in the fancy press doesn't say 'send cheques payable to..., send to ....' and divulge every piece of information. If someone is interested they contact the seller by phone, PM or how ever. There is no easy way that people could post their information in such a way that ensures their data security that is better than the way we are requiring. Gemma is a moderator of the For Sale section and any details are kept offline on a computer that we both can keep an eye on (both physically and virus/security wise). This is far more secure than an online system, and as I say I know the location of the files and can ensure that the computer is no susceptible to any virus, or third party access. Regarding filling out the details; all details are required, and becoming a 'seller' is a manual process so that we can check all of these things. If there are any questions 'seller' staus isn't given, or can be removed at any time.
  6. Details are required to safeguard a buyer and the site. If a buyer cannot get hold of the seller through the means given out on their topic, and sufficient time has lapsed the details we hold may be given to the buyer. This is far safer than having them posted to the website, where as stated they could be abused. In a nutshell; To become a seller you give us your details. | v They are stored safely and are only accessible by an administrator or Gemma (as the For Sale section Moderator). | v Only if there are problems in contacting the seller will the details be used, or given to a buyer.
  7. The full personal details are only needed if there is a problem. We suggest the seller places as much information on the topic as possible, and that includes the personal/contact details as they see fit.
  8. There has to be some transition time because if you came and posted something for sale in there on Saturday, you weren't to know the changes were going to happen on Monday :-/ I think the boards being closed to new topics other than from approved sellers is the best way for the transition. The topics that are already on will gradually taper off, and get auto-locked after 30 days.

  10. And also remember to read the stuck topics on the 'Pending Sellers' board which you will now have access to
  11. Don't think I was too clear with 'Become a Seller' click here. Once you've clicked it, you now have access to this board (the private 'Pending Sellers' board). Here there are the guidelines and instructions for the next steps in becoming a seller on Pigeonbasics. Feel free to post in here any questions, comments about becoming a seller
  12. OK, we should be up and running now To become a 'seller' and have access to post to the for sale boards you need to go through the approval process - not too different to getting access to the Chit-Chat boards. Click on the 'Become a Seller' link in the For Sale boards section. You will be entered into the 'Pending Sellers' group and have access to some guidelines, rules and the suchlike. You then need to let us have some details (full info is on the Pending Sellers board). And then we can approve you There is a private sellers board, where you can discuss various items with administrators, other sellers, etc. You will be able to post a topic to the for sale boards (Misc Items, and Birds For Sale), however if you want to run a locked topic post it to the private board, and it will be locked and moved to the sale board for you when we next spot it. Being approved you are reminded (and will be) that a donation upon successful sale is required, either that or donating birds/items/money to our various good causes. Professional sellers are required to pay an upfront annual fee, and then depending on number/value of sales further donations down the line. There are a few more details but they only apply to people wanting to sell, so I won't bore everyone with the details One last thing, I've setup a 'Free Stuff' board where anyone can list anything as long as it's for free
  13. We're not for sale but there are changes being made to the 'For Sale' section The ability for anyone to post new topics to the 'For Sale' boards has been disabled. Topics ongoing are not effected (i.e. replies are still fine). We are brining in new rules concerning the sale of birds and other items on the forum, and I'll post up further details soon.

  15. There comes a point when this has to be locked. It is noted that the topic has broken rules, however in this case I feel to clear the matter from a number of peoples minds, and the forum from it continuing it was required. If anyone has any further comments or questions, please send me a PM.
  16. Are you using Internet Explorer 6 by any chance? If you are upgrade your web browser (link on right for Firefox). Or use the codes = the smilie face = wink = tounge out ;D = cheesy grin...
  17. Have been asked to lock this one, replies in PM only
  18. We've teamed together with John from Norban, and Dyllan from PigeonVitality to bring a few more items to the shop. And bring them with special offers I've got a few samples of the above two new products to give out, just need to think of some witty competition to select the lucky few Ideas? Don't forget that you don't need a credit or debit card, or even a Paypal account to buy from Pigeonbasics. Simply choose the 'Print Order Form' payment option and post it to us together with a cheque or postal order
  19. When we're bringing up individuals and it's getting personal that's the time to lock. I know we're in different circumstances here, but that's where we're headed. As there seems to be rumour rife I'll say this. In the case mentioned the member was warned more than once, however seemed not to take heed of these warnings and (with help from others it has to be admitted) still conduct deteriorated. The only step was then to ban for 4 weeks, by which he tried to circumnavigate within a couple of days - again posting the same as before. Therefore the ban stood (as specified in the rules). I have since spoken to the member and he has no desire to return to visit Pigeonbasics. We never wish to go down the road of dishing out warnings, and bans, and what I don't think is appreciated is that we do let a good number of topics run where other forums would have pulled the plug. We don't want to moderate, we don't want to have to wade in, but sometimes it cannot be avoided. Ending on a positive note, there are a few changes in the pipeline that should be rolled out in the next week or so. We've listened, debated, and are always trying to make things that bit better. Hey we're not perfect, but if we were we wouldn't be the same - if you know what I mean
  20. I've emailed him with a few things to try on his computer. Bart I think he's at work Alf I didn't ban him honest
  21. Very odd that no-one else has a problem in the area on the same ISP. What was the anti-virus program called Fair Play? Did it give an error/reason?
  22. Yep, just trying to solve why he can't get on the site. Do you live close to Gareth? The only reason I can come up with is that it's a Virgin Media DNS problem. But if everyone here can get on.... :-/
  23. Having a few troubles with Virgin Media. If anyone gets their internet using Virgin, could you give me a hollar
  24. I'd heard the one governing body to be a sport thing a few months back, just thinking of it now though amuses me, we're told to contact Sport, England, Wales, Scotland..... one governing body??? ;D
