  8. i only spoke to dr salmond over the phone and like you say he came accross as a very sincere add genuine man and was very helpfull with information regarding the grizzles, we also had a good we chat about pigeons in general and must say it was a pleasure to speak to him and look forward to meeting him sometime shortly.
  9. no appologies needed,i only knew mr copeland to see and never ever had the occasion to speak to him, however i am pleased to know you that his pigeons (whatever strain they are) are doing well for you i am certainly pleased with the ones i have, best of luck 2011 season
  10. i contacted dr salmond of shotts who i beleive is mr copelands grandson regarding these grizzles and and he told me they were bricouxs which he flies himself.
  11. good to know you are pleased with your yb,s Frank and are taking notice that some of the old strains which are all around our area are as good as you can get. With regard to the Mcivor grizzles i was a good friend of Peter Mcivor and went visiting lofts in the Solway and other places and got pigeons from him in the sixties and early seveties and the grizzles he had then originated from Berry a publican from Larkhall and he told me they were "Mason 12s", some of the older Larkhall members will probably know more about this, the pub was well known as Berries and may still be there
  12. yes i bought a grizzle cock at the late D Blackwoods clearance sale, the reason i went to this sale was because my wife was promised a pair of grizzles by a fancier from the Glasgow area two years previously when he came to collect a young bird we gifted him(still no sign of the promised grizzles after 4 years) i traced the origin of these grizzles, and it seems they are Bricouxs which originated from a Mr Copeland from Briech who i beleive was the grandfather of Dr Salmond from Shotts who also flies these grizzles. btw the first yb we bred from the cock we bought scored in the yb Nat 2009 and in 2010 another one scored and a bro. also timed on the day out of the seven birds we timed this year on the day four were bred from the grizzles including the nest mate of the dark cock you got Frank, however we have been lucky to acquire the sire and dam of the cock we bought at the sale through the kindness of a good friend of D.Blacwood.
  13. D.T.Angus Symington 1st & 4th open Rennes 1962 Mitchell Bros. Douglas Water 2nd open Rennes 1973 beaten by 0.4 of a yard by a pigeon in Coldingham in a west wind how unlucky can you get ?
  14. when a fancier pays for a bird to enter a race it is entitled to compete for any prize in the race, therefore if these limits were challenged im sure they would fall, anyway who wants to win a prize that another bird would have won if it had not been for a selfish rule.
  15. Pen 15 for me
  16. -10 in the loft this morning an improvement on -19 a week ago
  17. I always have a few late breds every year but dont start training until mid May the following year when the weather is more suitable to start inexperienced birds, i can usualy have them well enough trained to go training with the National birds in mid June 40-50 miles then they go as trainers to every young bird race, i think patience is the name of the game with late breds and this system has worked well for me. Two of the best pigeons i have were late breds trained this way and scored well in the Nationals and are still with me at 13 and 14 year olds.
  18. Retired,walk ma we dug.
  19. This would be the first step to the Gold Cup being flown from Eastbourne or somewhere inland.
  20. The July race Clermont/Falaise is an established race on the clubs progamme and should stay, if any channel race is to be dropped it must be Ypres, and yes that would help the birdage in the Gold Cup race.
  21. Surely not sugesting that the SNFC drop a channel race in favour of an inland one, the club was founded on long distance racing not inland.
