I will add Ted Claytons old bird loft is still at Dick Baldwins now it has all" the .new "boxes ie widowhood boxes and Albert Bartons loft was all closed in the 1960s and possibly earlier i have a couple of photos. Albert Barton was flying roundabout in the 1960s as well .
-
Sorry darky i meant windowhood and darkness and Vic is spot on about Ted Clayton too Dick Baldwin told me about this the darkened loft .Albert Barton was widowhood too in the 1950s.
-
Vic is right in what he says Albert Barton,Dr Rigg and many others were doing widowhood darkness in the 1950s and 1960s .I still fly the old English stuff though i fly natural due to my job and enjoying it they do not let me down.Roses choice a great hen Mrs Wills were would you put her in comparison with Saucy Sarah and Brittainia ?.
-
THe old British Stuff comes though time and again A certain J@R Wills ,Jimmy Sheppard ,Jim Donaldson and many others do well with them.We were sold a story that are birds were not good enough via the continent. Its not true and we have lost alot of good stuff Dick Baldwin could fly and win 1st race to last with his own family of Barker pigeons .Its down to stockmanship and commonsense by the way was that hen Roses or Johns Choice Mrs W ?.

1st Corn the price of corn has gone up world wide we had an awful harvest of peas and beans .Wheat and Barley is up too and will stay up why not feed good quality farm Barley £5?lb /£5 and farm beans 56lb/£6.50 you do not need fancy mixes with fancy names its like designer clothes a rip off. 2nd spuds yes they had a good growing season but they couldnt get on to harvest them 1,000s of tonnes rotted in the fields.

Whoever bought lot 47 in the charity sale she was a cracker i know the bird and what she is off and what she has bred.

Roland the problem with the BICC and the NFC etc going on the same transporter is the Nfc and others would have to go at midday no early libs its the continent which decides lib times not us and i cannot see the other UK clubs going for that can you ?.
-
No Redcheq manners cost nothing look at whats wrong with the fancy and look at Blackpool.
-
Roland thier are 4 sections north ,west ,central and eastern not brilliant and they will be looked at next year. Its your club write to the secretary with your ideas. The BICC though is all about the real BICC races,Pau,Tarbes,Marsaille,Perpignan and Barcelona the shorter races were brought in as preps for the main programme.People seem to forget that and with are much larger membership 99% of them havent got the nerve or the pigeons to fly 1 race from the main programme in an international club how do you think this can be improved ! ideas anyone.
-
I agree totally with the 1st statement Blackpool is not for me or my family for the same reasons.
-
Sorry to correct you Roland the BICC do have sections and have just added a northern sect to the 3 already and the prize money is around £100 per section .I must say though the BICC isnt about prize money or pools when you are lucky enough to clock a decent bird in the proper BICC races the internationals its a great high your cloud 9 .Its the same for me from Tarbes in the NFC its not the prizes or pools its knowing you have sent the birds tip top and again getting them in good time is the high.
-
I would like to ask if any members who resigned from the NFC last season would rejoin ?.I have only stayed in because of the opening of a marking station at Didcot as i only would fly Tarbes and Saintes with them and working full time on 12hr shifts travelling to and from marking. I think the NFC a to expensive for the shorter "sprint " races the BICC only charges £2/bird they need marking bto be more accessable for working people i know thats not easy but an ideas ?.

I have gone back to feeding barley this winter after the moult and keeping my few prisoner stock on it .The barley is fat high quality UK barley from the local farm near Cheltenham and they are doing well on it .I have seen some fancy bagged barley from the Continent and it wasnt anywhere near the standard of the local barley and double the cost.I have told my friend who is now using the farm barley to bite it and check it and to get a sample before he buys. I have read a good article by Mike Staddon concerning barley feeding as well he made alot of good points and he also stated to check its quality .At between £4/5 a bag it makes good feeding and econmoic sense.

Hello start and learn flying the system that suits your job and lifestyle and how you like your birds .I race natural it suits both of the above i do not want to race every week and i woild keep the birds if i did not race. My interest is out and out distance but go and meet a few local fanciers and talk to them then make your own decision try your 1st season natural and go from thier. -
