i was allways told protein for repairing and carbs for energy. Also the fats (the right sort of fats)contain slow release energy like Peanuts and oats. Slugmonkey do you carb load for the distance race's?

check the weather 50 miler is only an hours fly if the weather is good .its not all about the distance its how they handle the basket and cope with the stress. Also where is the fed going to drag them.Personally i would send the lot the main drag would bring them most of the way and if they cope with stress of the basket they will come ok.

i was in the running for the club channel average's(i know its not the same league) last race was niort and i had to gain 6 hours back niort being near 500 mile to me i knew it was possible.Well after checking the weather again and again i decided not to send the two cocks i fancied (father and son both good birds and best i own) i did however send the other 3cocks and 2 hens i had lined up bear in mind i only had a team of 7 cocks and a few spare hens well come the niort race and the race was held over just as i though it would but then on 6am sunday they were up this shocked me as i was expecting a monday lib.well i won the club 9th fed with a yearling clock at 7:30am the next morning not seen another pigeon.Did i make the right choice ?i believ so .did i win the averages ?no i dont think so but it will still be close ive still gotmy two good cocks and now an unexpected bonus cock who i thought was not much good.On a side note the race was a smash with only a couple on the night and most people losing most of there birds. As a double bonus my best cocks youngster won the young bird race by 4 minutes from 90 mile i know first few races mean nothing but still a nice suprise.

would be interesting to see how people do in the results with different training distance's.My birds allways hold there own in youngbird racing i win a few and take a few cards pity i cant do as well with my old birds but that will come.

lol i'm back to 18miles now theyve had there first race.before that i got them to 30miles starting from 5 miles 15miles 18miles(where they go now) then a couple of 30 miles and back to 18miles they will stay there the rest of the season 3 times a week now.

to be hohnest mate i wouldve expected them together if they where mine.I wouldput it down to a hawk going through them the darkness birds have probably experienced this before so dealt with it better. But you will never no for sure

yes Slugmonkey please enlighten us its the first time ive heard of it used on pigeons. some great results there Slugmonkey and your advice is not to be sniffed at. back to the post i dont treat for anything but i'm not a top flyer in the club or fed so maybe thats why i am not up there week in and week out just occasionally.

Fred did u use abox to photo the birds? Also what software did you use? sorry to be apain but it would be great to get my own birds photo'd like that without having to pay lol.

Ive found the darkness youngsters are generally fitter(wait for disagreements) than natural they are also more advanced acting like yearling's rather than youngsters could be the natural birds are just not as fit as the darkness birds. Also if a bop go's through them the second round are less prepared to deal with the situation mentally. Hope u get em all in the morning mate
-
ifi had rings i would take them
-
feed about 3/4 ounce per head before 11am.If it looks like bad weather i will add a bit more but allways food is removed at or before 11am.
