  1. Jimmy one conversation i bring up for major losses is that most people train there young birds too late. Nowdays most people breed in December-January, but they dont train till 3 weeks before the first young bird race. Now a pigeon i do not know its ageing but they grow at an unbelieveable rate, if they say a dog is 8 years to a year i believe a pigeon would be double or even triple that. Now those later bred youngster bred in April, these ybs are pushed up in the air, and are forced to go through the paces, so by end of July they can get into the first young bird races at around 12 -14 weeks old, while those bred in decemeber are now 6 months old before they are being trained, when in fact they should have been trained around march time, but because everyone concentrates on there ob racing the early bred young birds are given the backseat, untill the old bird racing comes to a close. just my personal opinion and have personally found that through the years ive kept onto my later rounds then the 1st round, its just like a 40 yr old man with no education, being chucked into school, the saying old dog dnt learn new tricks is a fallicy, but old dogs find it harder to learn new tricks is absolutely TRUE!

  14. Be interesting to gather everyones opinions on what they do and how they get the feathers falling and the feeding as such! Personally mine are all fed on a sort of 50/50 basic mixture half widowhood and half barley or depurative. My darkness young birds would be split into there new sections and the darkness young birds would not be let out for a whole month. On the corn twice a week they will get some fine oils a mixture of 5 different oils and multivitamins, they are also fed lots of oily seeds during this time of year. They also recieve nettle tea for the first 14 days of this period, then once every week from there. No treatment is given during this period, only tea, and garlic in the drinker. However i notice the more proportion of barley in the feed, seems to chuck out the feathers more quickly just an observation from experiements ive conducted over the last few years, and seems to keep them in brillant health through these winter months. I also where i work nights let them out after this month locked up out every single day, no forced flying they can do as they wish, have a bath, lounge about ect. Has anyone used the 24hrs no water method which im believed they use in chicken farming to bring on the moult?

  20. trapping is a fine art, and you need to fine tune it to your birds every year, as young birds and as old birds, it takes a matter of 3 days, ive wrote about it before on the website somewhere and of sometime ago its a procedure i have done for the last 2-3 seasons and hardly if ever get a bad trap, its starts on the first training toss, if those birds dont trap straight from the sky, the ones that do will be given half a mixture the ones that don't trap recieve nothing, the 2nd toss and 2nd day the ones that didnt trap from the air the previous day some will today, however if they dont can guareentee they will the third day, but the idea is to give them a treat after they have trapped well, like a peanut or such, as then they associate trapping with a treat, its like any animal to teach them tricks it must be with food, and once they have gained this trick, they can be fed as normal, however they must perform how you want them to(i.e trapping) if they dont no treat if you catch my drift
