  1. That's not what I meant George. It takes a different mentality for the distance races. Some enjoy sprint and there is nothing wrong with that. Some enjoy distance and likewise nothing wrong. Some enjoy the lot, just like yourself, again nothing wrong. It takes all sorts to make up the world and unless they are completely out of step with the rest there is nothing wrong with that. If they are completely out of step, maybe they are just different or even specially gifted. Never discount anyone, but rather treasure everyone you meet. They all add to your experience of life and your future ability to help others.
  2. Instant gratification is what most look for nowadays. Distance racing takes many years to develop your family and the knowledge of how to manage to do it. Then the hard knocks, so a special mentality is required. That mentality is lacking nowadays, very few persevere at anything. It used to be items were made to last and were worth repairing when broken, but nowadays they are made to throw away, rather than repair. We live in a throwaway society and this mentality is not conducive to the perseverance required for distance racing.
  3. Good post Davy, if they want to accommodate sprint racing. If they could get their act together, instead of playing mini despots, feds could go together for the longer races and use the idle transporter to go together for the sprint / middle races allowing injured / prep races for setting up distance candidates. Simple really, but as Rab said elsewhere, everyone has an opinion, so agreement will never be reached and we will rush into oblivion, instead of slowing the progress in that direction. Short fast races, with lots of excitement, open to punting by the general public, be it in the local hostelries or even better organised, and perhaps more of the public would get behind us and possibly even join our ranks.
  4. Well done lads. You are the named winners, but your other members provided your competition, so well done to them as well. It takes all members to make a club. For those who didn't win, you have to lift your game, go for it. For those who did win, they are after you, try keeping it. Better to be a loser in a really good club, than a winner in an easy to win club. Measure your own success by any improvement you have managed this year, even if that improvement is that you realised you need to look in the mirror more often.
  5. As far as I am aware the only races available to the sprint man in Scotland are the early club races. After the first 5 to 8 races there is nothing for the sprint man. The exception being Ayrshire North Road Federation which has 11 Sprint races as its only programme. On the continent and to a lesser extent in England there are lots of races at sprint distances. When they reach middle distance and long distance they still race sprint on the same week, possibly the previous day and as Rab says, they have Sprint Champions, etc. I think Scotland has been geared to all round racing with the emphasis on distance racing. This has never really changed except some have introduced "sprint" pigeons to ensure they are competitive from start to finish.

  8. Thank goodness!! When I saw the post I thought I had forgotten it. I would have hated to miss it. Frank, what are the times? Andy
  9. It says seagulls and one in particular which is also attacking cats. Not completely unlikely if it has a nest with young in it, they can be very aggressive. It then states a sparrow hawk is using another place to kill small birds. It then states a peregrine is killing from another place and 20 bags of carcasses had to be removed. No cover up and possibly fair reporting. It was biased against the seagull and the s h and percy only had a small mention therefore the 20 bags may have been missed by the reading public. Anybody from Perth on site who knows the truth of the matter?
