I would be tempted to feed an ounce per pigeon in a trough after exercise then 30 mins later feed a tablespoon of 50% barley 50% condition seed in their boxes, leave this mixture in their pots till the following days exercise when you can tip any excess away. (I'm taking it you exercise them once a day)

I think I once read a book by Pierre Dordin who advocated night training.

A couple of ways of testing the quality of a bag of maize is if you bury your hand in it there should be no powder on your hand when withdrawn. The other is drop a handful on a hard surface and it should ping everywhere, if it just bounces with a dull sound its no good.

Write to the fed secretaries in your area requesting boundaries & clubs in which you could join. Feds are crying out for members so they should only be to happy to help.

Should be taken of the notice board (there for all to see). Best moved to a members board.

IMO some fanciers darkness youngsters fail as yearlings because they pair them up to early. If you look at a darkness youngsters life, in a 8 month span they body moult twice, are trained & raced covering a total of well over a 1000 miles (heavy trainers nearer 1500) in-between moults. Fanciers that pair them up early do so in many cases whilst they're still growing their last flight. I feel in these cases the darkies haven't benefited from rest & time to get into breeding condition before they're asked to raise a pair of babies, (They say that breeding a pair of babies is equivalent to a 500 mile fly). IMO pairing them up the end of January is plenty early enough.
