    Weather

Going to be a hot one here Young birds trained and home. Going to spend the rest of the day moaning about the heat
  12. A typical racing Saturday in August when young bird racing is in full swing. As far as I’m aware just RPRA organisations are shown here, add to this the Scottish, Welsh, NEHU & NWHU feds. Cut down on the distance of races flown and you’ll cut down on the criss-crossing, surely this would help.
  13. Is there any real value in racing youngsters past say the 100 mile stage? If all feds adopted this approach would it cut down on clashing (surely the biggest factor in young bird losses) Something has to be done or this year like last year and the year before and the year before that we’ll have fanciers lose a big part of their teams Doh! Doh! Doh! Comes to mind Can these losses be avoidable? For’s & against and reasoning please or any changes you would like to see implemented that in your opinion will help cut down on losses.

  22. You sometimes see this (splayed legs) in youngsters that are single reared. Well built nests help to cut this down also putting a small object like a potato in the nests of single reared babies. If you do notice a baby in the nest with a leg outstretched (splayed) put a clip ring on the non ring leg and tie a piece of twine between the clip ring and life ring, pull the legs together with the twine till the legs are in a normal position. It goes without saying the earlier you notice this the more chance you'll have to do something about it.
  23. I go along with this. I will add I've never had any success with a pigeon thats broke its leg high up.
  24. Re YBS. A vet put it to me like this, ybs is comparable to us humans having glandular fever, a high temperature, muscles ache, fatigue etc. The first thing to do is keep them confined to the loft, first and foremost they need to be rested. I personally would then put them on a course of antibiotics (4 in 1) to stop any secondary infection taking hold. All being well you'll see a vast improvement in 4-6 days and have them back on the road in 7-9 days.
  25. Sun just breaking through gonna be another hot one.
