    Feeding

    Worth a read, http://www.pigeonbooks.com/index.php?r=14&c=72&l=en
  2. You say it was sick as you were feeding them, was the grains that it spewed up swollen? If so the food it spewed up was from yesterdays feed. If it is indeed swollen you could be looking at young bird sickness.

  13. A tip when taking a pigeon from its perch, get its attention by showing it one hand then quickly pick it up with the other.
  14. Box perches are better for novices, much easier to catch the pigeons in.
  15. A sputnik helps but sitting on top of the loft does give them a chance to look round 360°
  16. If the older ones are making it up to the top perches you'll have to be a bit careful with these. You could place them in a basket or training crate and sit this on the top of your loft so they can have a good look around. I'd do this for an hour or two a day for a week before letting them out.

There's a few things that can cause wing lameness/swollen joints so you must get them tested before you decide your course of actions. If the results were to confirm Paratyphoid/Salmonella I would dispose of all pigeons showing signs of it, their parents and any other pigeons that came from the same source. Those that are left I would train hard and race hard, take note of pigeons that struggle under this regime and dispose along with their parents. You are going to have to be very harsh with your pigeons I'm afraid, if not your enjoyment will be very limited.
  24. The majority of my young will fly the program, I may stop the odd cock or two after they've had 5 races. I race my yearling's on w/hood and firmly believe they must have experienced being raced as babies, the more times they race as a baby the better.
  25. Full cloud cover, n/w breeze.
