Often mean to ask a question of that fancier that lives in Lerwicke. Sister and her hubby, use to visit often, and likewise many fancier etc. have told me that in June the weather there changes in minutes, and can easily come fog / mist etc. in minutes. Also that the best holiday time - weather and pigeon wise also is July, when the weather is calmer and more reliable.

Yep the feet were like sparrows, thoiugh a mite thicker, any ideas what to tell him? He no longer has that one, but does he mate them again?
-
Sorry to hear that mate.... hope you never paid oat up front!

Doesn't work, it's a myth. Fragrant sponge does, asprin in milk does, a 4 100 does, and a electric fence, ah that's legal does.

You know, all this and a Publicity, for instance to those that leave their will, or donate £'s every month to help in regards the Garden birds etc. and many other concerns that have concerns re 'Raptures' etc. need their voice heard! Need it formatting and explained in the right ears, Likewise the Media, and your've guessed it A P.R. firm that has a think tank, built in levy boards etc. and put over at every oppertunity ours' and others fears, rights and just what is going on! But that would coast us all a quid, - unless other concerns join in - so that is out!

No need to be a falconer, it's natural instincs would do what it does best.... But bet they would be cleaned out / shot by the RSPB. A few pairs along our birds fliht paths would be handy though ... have asked the cost of a pair .... must chase the answeer up.

Well I had never seen this before. Went and saw a pigeon youngster about eady to be rung. First one fine. When I picked the second up to ring, I was put back a mite. It was dryish, and the feet / legs were just skin and bone anddry like a crackle piece of bacon rind. I told him what I thought, that I felt it was rubbish, and best not kept.... It also had a slight cough when picked up! It doesn't now, but said I'd ask on here for any views. Crop was full too, but was very gaunt looking.

Knew of fanciers that had young spaded kittens that were allowed to roam with the birds , grew to protect them. My father - we I supose lol - had cats and dogs, that tolerated each other. All knew their place like. But a cat will ignore a dog as soon as it knows the territory, and can get bove it in safety. And is a cat atacks any dog, the dog is zitcho from then on.... For it will drop on it's back and claw at the dogs eyes.... Dogs scram from then on. Electric fence ,,, garden centres now do them for £50 especialy for cts and allottments etc.

Not bad idea really oh Red one.... many countries have seen an influx of member via doing just that! And the Grandchildren - family may get the bug. THAT is what it is all about, sowing a seed however possible. Most of us caught the bug young, and then after marriage and a couple of kids later returned. Two reasons why they don't return is ‘small back gardens’ and COSTS. And a good pointer as to cost that tips the balance is the 'Unfair Playing Fields’. Yes everyone accepts that one can't have as such ... but the clichés that have the advantage seem to be he very same ones that are on committees blocking any and every improvement that would have helped and never gave any lee - way when they could have helped. This in turn shows only too well the selfish and yes short sightedness of too many. Again we will see many leave through this ET. Will the pro brigade care!! Not a jot, but offer lame crutches as excuses. If they now said 'OK whether there needs to be a 12 second handicap or not on the first bird, and 3 seconds every one after, we will allow this. After all the ET clockers won't lose oat, and many may stay. Further as the pro brigade is not only fair minded they want to be seen as be fair! Then I'll have an ET clock with a clear conscious and the club would all be happy. But that will never happen. In 10 years, out side of me, I have only ever seen one other - on here too - that was willing to accept a handicap to help even it up, and put to rest any hiccups and with a view of keeping flyers! But it seems as always it will be 'Stuff you! I want an ET at any cost, and if that means fewer flyers, then that will mean I may win a bit more, and if it also means through others leaving I pay more, so be it'. And as for demeaning the credibility of the 'Prize / Win' so what! A win is a win! Should put - a long time ago - our own house in order and look after the flyers we have (Had) and then look towards getting new members. After all just what can one use in regards the actual 'Races' to encourage new members joining! Nowt! But a self lot of twisters who line their own pockets and feed their own interests. the youngster in that case are more willing to spend £70 or more throwing insults at a Referee, than waste time and money to no avail.

I may well have a walk abouts up there. May well be a good day out ... of course will leave the wallet with the missis, and we'll no doubt gander about looking at the local shops etc. so may lose that tenner in the wallet....

Always told in past the reason that we have to stick to the East side was A. 'Raptures and B. that Pigeons wouldn't rise up and go over the mountains.... Well A. raptures are every where now, and B. is a load of cobblers, and more like the East coaster won't allow it. Fanciers won't accept change to push forward. Now in reality if the pigeons would riseover the Back bone of britain, then it would be fairer for everyone in Leicester, Northants etc. etc. as they's fan out after say Worksop ... but funnily enough when we race Worksop, as always in a West wind East benefits...

Loverly first post Stu.... And it wasn't bragging, but rightfully a proud statement. Sometimes a little drinky helps to state wwhat one wouldn't otherwise ... like in your case you would be hard pressed - I believe - to state such without fear of 'Blowing your own Horn'. I have never seen you do that, and that is one of 2/3 reasoNs why I respect you.

Jimmy the '.... money is the route of all evil' is misquoted, it's actually 'The LOVE of money is the root ...'.

I've posted exactly the same.... When F & M struck and we went East it was beter, and many deserving dferrent names popped up and got credit that all too often has eluded MOST great flyers. But when one looked at the BHW and saw the letters from those that had alway their cake and ate it, thought it was, and is their right! The letter were still soggy from the ears cried. And every one new that there wasn't going to be any more East route nationals ... excet in dire straits. And the so called top boys wouldn't be sending. But subject to wind, it was evanly shared out. But the section boundries would soon be altered then!!! I'd love to fy Moscow ... but it was a great route just after war years and of course it is sill flown today. Likewise equeal distance wise the West of Ireland takes all the beating. Thunderbolt, just in answer, I fly my pigeons Both north and south. Same ones go either way any week. That makes no difference to the birds. But as for South Road being an harder road... well that was just one fallacy (one of many) put forward to win over North Roaders to change and send South. Indeed it makes one laugh and wonder even today, the South Roaders in this area claim much the same silly nonsense, but the best one is that 'Most in this area fly South ... when in reality they are out numbers 5 to one! Hardest road to fly? North without a shaddow of doubt.

Story from Canada.... ............. this week about a bird. Not the usual type of bird call I get though. He said he knew I like writing things for the internet sites, etc so he thought I may want to do a write-up story on a newly acquired bird he has. We will name him 'Tom' for now. Tom said living inside a town, he has a real problem with common pigeons coming to his lofts. They enter whenever the traps are open and make themselves at home with the feed, water and nesting materials. He says he has had to resort to shooting some of the more persistent ones. Usually one pellet and thats it. Well... last week he had a persistent one come along. It was an ugly looking thing, like so many commons are. After trying all other methods of discouragement, he shot it early this week. Unluckily, one shot was not 'It' this time. The bird hit the ground, alive but with a pellet through it's wing. Unable to do it more damage, he took it to a home that had a lot of bird feeders and let it go. End of story... Not quite. Two days later Tom's wife was getting ready to go to work. She started down the drive and had to stop the car. There was a pigeon walking to the house, in the middle of their driveway. She went in and called for Tom to come get it out of the drive. Tom was shocked to find it was the very same pigeon, with a hole in it's wing. He said it had to have walked about 4 miles, crossed over 2 railway tracks, came through about an acre of wasteland thick with dense brush and 'clear across town' with lots of outdoor cats. He said because it was so brave and persistent, (what started all this) with a homing instinct stronger than most of the birds he breeds, he is going to heal it and put it in his stock loft for next year. I think he said it's new name is 'Homer'. Ever flew a great, great pigeon one race too many and lost it? Tom has an off- spring to it. lol.

Why can't you just let them in and out of their own section and feed them there as well? Like young bird sliding door system. Because they will be flying to the nest box ... I like the above trap all mine through the same Trap, also a corridor. But they have always done that. The sections most 'Round - about uses means that during their nest rearing period they would both be using the same Trap. Now when the cock birds return from their outing they will trap back to where the hens are... and then the hns do the sam, otherwise you would have to break them into a new trap! That is nigh impossible in the same season that the have mated and reared oung in, if it at all that season.

And easier flying and soon to be less competetion lol > : ;D ;D ;D lol, just joking ... or am I lol

Without a shaddow of doubt! Anywhere in the world!
