  1. Well must be the drink as usual eh! the Scots bragging rights manifesting lol ;D ;D ;D
  2. Margate should have read Markgate... St, Albans Bu Dunstable is right.
  3. wan't knocking you Miss, nor the story, but had read somewhere, so perhaps someone else picked it up and ran with it. Gordon Chalmbers rings a bell.... But any a loverly story and like so many others glad you posted it! Roland
  4. Ah found this, I believe many will find it interesting. http://www.boxrec.com/media/index.php/Category:ABA_Champions Forgot to add lol.
  5. Ah found this, I believe many will find it interesting. By the way B. Harper, who also won the commonwealth games in 1954 i believe, was better known as Brian London.
  6. Yes, and though he was from Dunstable, I think you'll find he boxed out of Margate... under one of the ABA comitteeman.
  7. Yes Dave I did find it interesting. May well be a little of what you said to me ealier in that about Cliff.
  8. David Cliff was never a ABA champion... Devisional at best. I was often on the same bill.... Indeed I ko his younger brother, R. Fields in my second Fight. But he waqs a tough god amateur heavywieght. Was down to fight J. Cullen a couple of times but it never happened. Wells and Boddington were the ABA champion at his era. H e fought a geat fight topping our show once. Around them times... Then of course Joe Bugner was London finalist losing to Billy Wells in the final ON his 17th birthdayin 1968. So he may have been beaten by him. In the Mid sixties Champs were 1963 - Cpl. Robert D. Sanders (Royal Navy BA) 1964 - Colin Woodhouse (Wandsworth ABC) 1965 - William Wells (Wandsworth ABC) 1966 - Anthony Brogan (Barnstaple ABC) 1967 - Peter Boddington (Rootes ABC) 1968 - William Wells (Lynn ABC) I believe you will find. Cliff was in that era.
  9. Very True... Was that the Cliff Fields from Margate way boxing club Was an Empire Games contestant...
  10. I'd have no hesitation putting Old yellow and tammy's names forward for starters.
  11. Something sensible like simple realistic basics. No ego trippers spout codswallop to try and impress you mean. Great idea! And 4 realists set up for the purpose of answering 'Novice status' and members of the public is brill.
  12. So much agree there. We have the MNFC which is another joke. So to get more members they extend their radious to the North (East at that) and south way past any Midland territory. So two things wrong, 1. it isn't a National by any stretch of the imagination, and two doesn't even serve the Midlands proper. AND futher, like the NFC has no merit! Even feds and combines are far harder to get a place, let alone a win, and they have 3 - 4- 5 10 times more pigeons sent! Obviously a darn site more meriteous that both the MNFC and the NFC, further the BICC = which of course don't cater for any sensible sections either.
  13. Very True Vallance, and I'm certainly not pushing my boat out lol. Now were have here two real hard men. When they brought 4 hardmen down from the smoke (Had shooter too), they clobber the 4 between them, amd mark my words all four were named and no slouches. Further one did the door all over Britain when called for as they had big trouble. Very well paid too. Had a coper here stationed once, who said, and I can't quote word for word but the gist, 'Beem Tiger Bay, Liverpool, and some real rough places in Newcastle.... But this town is not only full of nutters but some of the ardest I've ever seen AND those two, the afored mentioned, are the top two'! We said you haven't met Jimmy P**** yet then and laughed. He fought Randolph Turpin twice... etc. Was a brilliant footballer and cricket wicket keeper. At 16 they used to tie the ropes around 4 trees up the Oval and he'd fight all comers for 10 bob (50p) Yes the towns hard men. and many that came from miles around and never lost, often had several fights of course in one night. Made a lot of dosh. Different era's of course... But the one that went Manchester, London etc. trouble shooting always said that 'Huggy -another hard legend - was the toughest man he ever fought, and that was when he was 57! Against a 23 year ol. So glad I never had to fight the losers lol.
  14. Great post... I'd go with that 100%. the best of three worlds.
  15. Seems I heard the story before... So I take it that that wasn't recent? :-/
  16. Bartley Gorman - King of the Gypsys ... Heard too many rumours to the contary to take him as a serious contender. roy pretty boy shaw once beat Lenny - 1st time, but was truely well beaten second time by Lenny Lenny the guvnr McLean... yes, when he went to the USA and fought the top Mafia enforcer, a 6 foot 8 mean machine, he annialated him within a minute... spent the rest of his stay fighting down the docks against all comers for kicks. Charles Bronson ... have a few in Woodville that would tear Bronson apart. Top dog there though is easily Samson. he is 6 foot six and -Like a few others - manacled when leaving the cell. But no half decent boxer would beat them I'm afraid. Frank Bruno was offered out by Lenny, but sensibly refused. lenny would have tore him apart. Mind Bruno wasn't even half decent .... Now Whiddet, he was pure class.... but only allowed to be a sparring partner... they wouldn't allow him a licence, saying 'We can make money with Bruno' etc. and paid the price for being out of order shall we say. John Darke was more than a mean handful. Was no doubt hammering John Binden - a Bully Boy granted - when he was stabbed.
  17. But What era?
  18. Well 'Sykes' was one... But I'd still go with Lenny McGlean. Gosh and Roy Shaw is reputed to still be going... 70 or so now. Mad mitch etc. etc. but them with Bradshaw etc. were well beaten by lenny.

  24. Must say, impressed, and you show you have certainly learnt a lot. Where from and how maters not ... certainly wasn't from the likes of me maidMarrion, Tammy and Dovescot... but impressed regardless.
  25. ;D ;D ;D good ole boy giving there money away lol. P.s. don't sup[ose you could help direct the £1000 my way eh! ;D ;D Just joshing. Seriously this is a deplorable act. Feel maybe the £1000 for info may be better spent. Can and will always get a loft... But info? Well that's a mite harder, though possibly a lot more important in it's way.
